Parties abound this Homecoming

Students from all classes eagerly anticipate the fraternity parties around campus as one of the highlights of Homecoming weekend.

Despite the fact that members of the Class of 2002 are not allowed to attend fraterniety parties, many freshman say they have been attending parties this term and intend to do the same during Homecomiug weekend

Kimberly Taylor '02 said she has been attending fraternity parties a lot this term. To gain entry to Alpha Delta, she and her friends bypassed the door, choosing instead to use a window and a fire escape to enter.

Going to parties during Homecoming is not a big deal, she said, despite the visitation policy. Taylor said she feels it is easier to get in to parties as a female.

"I'll do it anyways -- bad as it may be," she said.

The "Freshmen Visitation" policy, voted on annually by the Coed-Fraternity and Sorority Council, says that the houses will make every reasonable effort to ensure that freshmen do not enter the houses illegally during the Fall term.

Freshmen are not allowed in "Tier Two" CFS events during Fall term. "Tier Two" events are open parties where alcohol is present.

Garth Sullivan '02 said he has been to parties a few times, mainly when he knows someone in the house. Getting in "hasn't been easy," he said.

However, Safety and Security officer Mark Lancaster said Safety and Security may increase the number of officers on patrol. The increase will definitely be part of safety during the Freshman Sweep and bonfire, Lancaster said.

While freshmen might have to sneak their way into the parties on Webster Ave. and around campus, upperclassmen and alumni will be enjoying a wide variety of activities and entertainment.

Several houses will be featuring bands from around the Northeast.

Phi Delta Alpha social chair Aaron Fischman '00 said their party Saturday night will feature band Wilbur McBean. Fischman said the group is thought of in upper New York state as "an eclectic group with an unreal talent to improvise and captivate the audience."

Alpha Delta fraternity will be hosting Boston band Lettuce, who has previously opened for Run DMC, and Psi Upsilon will host a Tufts University band named Another Planet.

Houses will also be hosting dance parties. Kappa Kappa Kappa and Chi Gam fraternities will be hosting a party tonight, while Zeta Psi hosted one last night and will host another tonight.

CFS organizations will also host several special events throughout the weekend.

Delta Sigma Theta sorority and the Afro-American Society will host the Incognito masquerade ball, with a DJ and finger foods. Guests will receive a face mask at the door.

Chi Heorot fraternity will be celebrating several big events for the house. In addition to revealing the new renovations to the house, brothers and alumni will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the fraternity's charter.
