TNN descends on Hanover plain

A nationwide audience got a taste of life in Hanover yesterday afternoon, when The Nashville Network broadcast "Video PM Raceweek" live in front of the Hopkins Center.

The show was filmed and aired from 2 to 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon and featured a combination of music videos, shots of venues in the Upper Valley and interview -- including ones with Hanover's Honorary Mayor Lou Bresset and the College's Associate Director of Public Affairs Roland Adams.

The crew, which arrived in Hanover Tuesday and spent a night in the Hanover Inn, aired film of the Ledyard Canoe Club, the campus mainstreet, downtown Hanover and Norwich Village, Hanover Town Manager Julia Griffin said.

The Cardigan Mountain Tradition, the Lyme Town Band and the Morris Dancers performed for TNN viewers, and the crew shot footage of an oxen pull.

The crew decided to host the show in front of the Hopkins Center because the building is "a good backdrop," Chairman of the Hanover Board of Selectmen Willy Black said.

"Dartmouth is part of Hanover and it's central," she said.

Black said pedestrian traffic outside the Hopkins Center did not impede the filming.

Rich, who has been traveling with TNN for five years, said Hanover is one of "the most beautiful" locales she has visited.

Hanover is "absolutely one of the most spectacular settings we've had the opportunity to work in," Video PM host Lisa Foster said. "The people have been absolutely delightful ... [it is] nice to actually see Dartmouth College."

Black said she was "pleased" TNN decided to visit Hanover.

"Anytime you can put Hanover on TV it's good for tourism, it's good for the town, it's good for the College," she said.
