Bear Bones Offends with Ethnic Insults

I am writing in response to the Bear Bones cartoon printed (for the second time, I believe) in the July 20 issue of the Dartmouth.

I find Berenson's character "Jumpin' Jesus" to be a bit insulting. Apparently, mocking a principle figure of Christianity, having Him pretend to be "hip," and use profanity is funny to Berenson, and no doubt some of his readers. However, I find it very frustrating that in these days of political correctness, the only religion it is still okay to make fun of is Christianity. I have no doubt that Berenson is fully aware that "M.C. Mohammed" et. al. would not only have prompted vicious responses from the Muslim community, but could likely have led to the end of his Dartmouth cartooning career. These sorts of ethnic insults are rarely considered humorous by the powers that be.

Judging by Berenson's blatant disregard for good taste in his strip, he is sure to be amused by my response. Perhaps he even intended the offense, since he knew he could get away with it. I hope, for his sake, that someday he takes Jesus more seriously.
