Assembly plans for busy Summer term

This summer's Student Assembly will work to inform students about the new alcohol policy and their academic advising options, Assembly members decided Tuesday night during a brainstorming session.

The Assembly also hopes to replace outmoded computers in the Hopkins Center and Collis Student Center with PowerPCs and may become involved in the '02 Community Night, Summer Chair Janelle Ruley '00 said.

"I want us to challenge ourselves and then I want us to live up to those promises," Ruley told the Assembly.

She encouraged members to "talk to the campus" and to "find out what [students] think."

The Assembly is considering publicizing the release of the Visions Project write-up, which is available in Baker Library's reserve corridor and at the Collis Information Desk. Because of publishing problems and the existence of the Dartmouth Interactive Directory, it may retire Mugshots, a student directory in book form.

The Assembly may create a new type of DID page for use by administrators and faculty members, and is working to add a DID index for the College's 35,000 alumni, Assembly member Dave Gacioch '00 said.

During the meeting, Assembly member Paul Holzer '00 suggested the Assembly encourage Coed, Fraternity and Sorority houses to recycle.

During the Assembly meeting, Jason Rubinstein '00 was elected Assembly treasurer, and Melissa Metzler '00 was selected as its secretary.

Members of the summer Assembly will deal with improvements in two broad topic areas, Student Life and Student Services.

This is a departure from the organization of the fall, winter and spring Assemblies, which consist of six committees, each headed by a vice president.
