Collis Governing Board is Working to Bring Positive Changes to the Collis Center

To the Editor:

In her editorial, "Up All Night," [The Dartmouth, May 26] Amanda Molk issued a challenge to the Collis Center Action Team and the administration to bring more quality programs such as Dartmouth Up All Night to Collis.

As the Director of Collis and Student Activities, I'm writing to encourage all students to be a part of transforming Collis. You might be asking yourself, "How can students transform Collis?" The answer begins with becoming involved with and supporting the Collis Governing Board. Formerly the Collis Center Action Team, the Governing Board has received a small budget from the Undergraduate Finance Committee for the 1998 - 1999 academic year (starting July 1). The Governing Board is at the ground stage of developing its mission and plans for the summer and fall.

The Governing Board will be examining ways to increase student use and ownership of Collis. The Governing Board will focus on improving services and programs in Collis. One exciting development is that the Governing Board will be responsible for developing and maintaining the billiards room as a social space. Two important changes starting this summer term will be free billiards and a great sound system.

Another important role of the Governing Board will be to work with the Collis Center and Student Activities Office as well as other administrative offices such as Dartmouth Dining Services in recommending and creating change in the building. Creating long term, positive change is a challenging yet rewarding task. I am confident that Dartmouth students will be pleased with upcoming changes in Collis.

If you want to be a part of the Governing Board, you are welcome to attend the last meeting of the term, which will be on Tuesday, June 2 at 4:30 p.m. in 212 Collis. If you can't make it, come to the meetings this summer and in future terms on Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. in Collis.
