Student Assembly Committee Seeks to Fill Gaps in the Curriculum

To the Editor:

I would like to correct some of the statements that I made regarding the plans of the Student Assembly Committee on Academic Affairs. My quoted comments made it seem as though we are pursuing departments for both ethnic studies and Korean studies. In fact, this is not the case.

Rather, we are working to promote awareness of the need for comparative ethnic studies on campus and to create courses that would fill any gaps in the curriculum. Aside from these, we have no concrete goals, such as the creation of a department and do not wish to imply that this curriculum would take the place of existing options that students have to pursue more specific areas of the field.

In addition, the resolution that the assembly unanimously passed in the fall supported the creation of a Korean studies program that would encompass Korean language classes and an LSA, rather than the formation of a separate department.
