2001 Class Council plans dance

It was back to business for the leaders of the Class of 2001, who had their first meeting of the new year last night.

First in the works is a freshman class dance the '01 Council has scheduled for the end of January. Discussion over the theme continues, but for now, the Council is favoring a Hawaiian luau.

The Council has already hired DJ Jeffrey Eldridge to supply the music and booked both Alumni Hall or Collis, though it has not yet decided which venue the dance will be in.

The Council is also planning to create a report collecting freshman reaction to the College Committee on Alcohol and Other Drugs's policy recommendations, which it will submit to Dean of the College Lee Pelton.

Another plan in the making is a freshman trip to a local ski resort. The Council is hoping that if enough freshman sign up, it will be able to bargain the price for the lift tickets down.

Revising the Class Council Constitution and organizing an event for Winter Carnival are also on the agenda.

The Council's president, Amar Dhand, who was elected last term, said "unifying the class" is priority number one and creating a support system for students who have left home for the first time is also very important.

The Council is already beginning to organize Family Weekend, which is slated for the weekend of April 24.

The Council has been discussing possible themes for the weekend, ranging from "2001: A Dartmouth Odyssey" to "Dartmouthopoly."

Other '01 Council officers include Vice President Michael Foote, Secretary Debra Brodsky and Treasurer Andrew Vera.
