College experiences quiet weekend

There were fewer violations and arrests this Homecoming weekend than in years past, Safety and Security said yesterday.

Four students were arrested for rushing the field during the football game Saturday, and six students were arrested for alcohol-related incidents, Hanover Police reported. Safety and Security reported eight alcohol-related violations and one vandalism incident.

Normally, there is a sharp increase in campus crime during the three big party weekends: Homecoming, Winter Carnival and Green Key weekend in spring. The increase was less marked this year than normal.

Last year's Homecoming was also quiet: there were seven alcohol violations and three vandalism incidents reported. One unidentified student also climbed to the top of the bonfire before it was lit.
