Nagare and Zitha to lead summer CFSC: Bell, Dosunmu, McCarter, Muckle, also elected

The Coed Fraternity Sorority Council elected Delta Delta Delta sorority sister Melissa Nagare '99 as Summer term president yesterday evening.

Risana Zitha '99, a brother at Alpha Delta fraternity, was elected the CFSC summer vice president.

Nagare, who served for two terms as CFSC secretary, said her goals for the term will depend on the concerns of the presidents of each Greek house.

"I want to make sure each house makes it through the summer," Nagare said. She added she plans to have a retreat for all of the presidents to discuss the CFSC's summer goals.

The CFSC, which is the governing body of Dartmouth's Greek system, is comprised of the presidents of each of the College's fraternities, sororities and coed houses.

Because of her past experience on the council, Nagare said, she is aware of the issues the CFSC faces -- including changes in the alcohol policy, the hand-stamping policy and co-sponsorship.

"The CFSC is what keeps our Greek system strong," Nagare said.

"She can do what is best for the Greek system," Tri-Delta summer president Weze Shorts '99 said of Nagare. As president of CFSC, "her opinion is not as important as the opinion of the presidents."

Zitha, whose job as vice president will entail chairing the CFS Judiciary Committee, said since the College allows the Greek system to help regulate itself through the JC, "they expect us to be responsible."

The vice president "can't buckle under pressure," Zitha said, because inevitably students representing houses that appear before the Judiciary Committee "will be your friends."

He said as vice president, and especially as chair of the JC, he will want to deal with the entire Greek system in a good light.

Folarin Dosunmu '99, president of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, and John Muckle '99, an Alpha Chi Alpha brother, were elected programming liaisons.

Dosunmu served as the CFSC programming liaison Spring term, and will also hold the position in the Fall.

Spring term, Dosunmu was the first programming liaison to tackle new programming standards.

Muckle, summer co-chair of the Programming Board, said he thinks "programming is overlooked in the Greek system."

"If there is one person in these elections that is fit for the role, it is" Muckle, Alpha Chi Summer President Seth Kelly '99 said. "He is very dedicated to getting Greeks involved in programming."

The Summer term CFSC secretary is Jess McCarter '99, a Sigma Nu fraternity brother, and the treasurer is Juan Bell '99 of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

McCarter, who was defeated as vice president and ran again for the position of secretary, brought packets for all members of the CFSC containing information he compiled about alcohol policies at Dartmouth and other colleges.

"The administration has not been open and fair with us" about the alcohol policy, McCarter said.

Nagare said she was "very impressed" by McCarter's preparation.

Bell is treasurer of Alpha Phi Alpha, and said he gained knowledge of the CFSC through Dosunmu last term.

Dosunmu said Bell chaired events for his fraternity's 25th anniversary last term, and "would be nice for the job."
