To the Editor:
A strong candidate pool. That is what this Student Assembly Presidential election is about. In condemning the candidates collectively, The Dartmouth failed to deliver a solid endorsement with valid reasons. By devoting half the column to illuminating the candidates' flaws, little space was left to convince any reader of the superiority of any one candidate.
Differences exist among these candidates which are not conveyed when they are lumped together as one "unspectacular field." A candidate differentiates himself by his actions and the emotions those actions elicit in others.
Faith. Faith is necessary for all students to possess in their Assembly President. Faith is earned by someone who has proven true to his word. A person of action, not merely of words. This person is the candidate who cared enough to show up at your door, and who has inspired many campus leaders to work with him on numerous endeavors. Faith cannot and should not be expected; it is earned. Daily interaction in personal, academic and public arenas provide the groundwork for faith. It is in this faith that leadership finds its foundation. The best lead by example: inspiring us not to count on their voices alone, but rather to stand with them and scream. And we have faith that with them we will be heard.
But faith can only be inspired by passion. Passion. That is what Student Assembly needs to be about. That is what Student Assembly can be about.
