BG, Zete indicted for serving to minors

Bones Gate and Zeta Psi fraternities are both currently under indictment for serving alcohol to minors in two separate incidents.

The two fraternities received indictments from a Grafton County Superior Court grand jury during the jury's March sitting.

Bones Gate and Zete each received Class B felony indictments of prohibited sales -- specifically, serving alcohol to minors. No individuals are charged in either indictment.

According to the Valley News, the Bones Gate indictment resulted from a Feb. 6 incident , when a 20-year-old individual was allegedly served beer by the fraternity.

The Zete indictment charges that the fraternity served beer to an 18-year-old woman on Feb. 7 -- the Friday night of Winter Carnival weekend.

Members of both Bones Gate and Zete declined to comment last night on the indictments.

Although Hanover Police Chief Nick Giaccone told The Dartmouth in February that indictments against Greek houses at the College are somewhat unusual -- with about 10 indictments in the last 10 years -- Bones Gate and Zete are not the only Dartmouth fraternities recently indicted on charges of serving alcohol to minors.

An incident that occurred last Oct. 18 at an Alpha Delta fraternity event involving the underage drinking of a Dartmouth student and a female visitor to the College resulted in two counts of serving alcohol to minors.

And Alpha Chi Alpha fraternity was charged with one count of serving alcohol to minors stemming from an incident on Dec. 11, 1996 involving underage drinking by a Dartmouth student.
