To the Editor:
I have been an employee of the Hanover Green Card for nearly two years and I was both surprised and hurt by Sander Schlichter's editorial yesterday, "Stalked by the Green Card." [March 25, The Dartmouth] Although I did not personally handle what may or may not have happened with Schlichter's account this summer, I am confident that we do everything in our power to correct any mistakes we or our Green Card vendors make. Human errors are unavoidable and we make mistakes sometimes but we are learning more every day and each term we grow and do a better job of serving the Dartmouth community.
It doesn't bother me that Schlichter brought what happened to him to the attention of Dartmouth students, what does bother me is the manner in which he refers to our organization. The Green Card is a bunch of students and alumni trying to run a small business and provide a valuable service to Dartmouth. We have not expanded to other schools although we hope to someday. We are not trying to take advantage of students in some sort of "elaborate scheme." I have had classes and pleasant conversations with Schlichter. I wonder if he would consider me some faceless denizen of the evil corporate empire trying to take his money. Yet Schlichter feels the need to lump me in with "these people" who harass him and send him what are in my opinion far from "worthless" coupon books. He patronizes me and especially the two Dartmouth alums for whom the Green Card is a labor of love by his abusive, disrespectful comments on issues he apparently know little about.
This is certainly not the official opinion of the owners of the Green Card but the heartfelt feelings of someone who has watched this local business grow from the dream of a Dartmouth student into a positive role model and important member of the Hanover business community.
