Softball team drops two games to BU

The Big Green was shut out by the Boston University softball team during a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon 4-0 and 8-0.

In the first game, the Terriers scored once in the second and three times in the third inning. On the mound, Christina Maybaum '98 took the loss for Dartmouth.

One of the more impressive moves by Dartmouth was a double by Jane Peachy '99 in the first inning.

"Jane Peachy's hit was one of the highlights in the first game," Erin Rath '98 said. "Her first time up at bat she hit the ball six feet away from the fence. It bounced over the fence for a ground-ruled double."

"It was an incredible hit," Raili Cook '98 said.

In the second game, BU's Niclana Tolmascoff threw a no-hitter through five and a half innings en route to a win.

Cook was on the mound for the Big Green and took the loss. She gave up five earned runs in five innings. There were three unearned runs.

"We actually did better than it would look. They are a really good team. They are ranked sixth in the region while Princeton is second," Rath said.

"We made few errors," Rath added. "We are lowering the number of errors which we really need to do and making the plays we need to make. We could have done a lot worse. We did not lose as much and held our own."

"Considering the rank of the team, our scores are pretty respectable. The first pitcher was excellent and the defense made some superb plays that robbed us of some plays," Cook said.

The Dartmouth coach complemented the Big Green team, according to Cook.

"She said that we had a better approach than her ... team last year," she said. "We stuck close to them."
