Swastika Misused on Poster

To the Editor:

I would like to say a word about the posters I have seen around campus about the Colors rally. The use of the swastika, the symbol of the third reich in Nazi Germany, superimposed on an image of the United States, is a wholly offensive gesture towards anyone who is unfortunate enough to see one of these posters, and particularly Dartmouth's Jews. I myself, am a white male who comes from an upper middle class background, but I try understand the fear and frustration that must result from this latest wave of bigoted attacks on several minority students. While addressing these incidents is of utmost importance, it is totally inappropriate to compare the systematic extermination of a race of people (in this century, no less) to the actions of a group of ignorant hate mongers. While the purpose of the posters was to unite people against bigotry, hate , and racism, I find myself a bit scared and disappointed when the use of a symbol of the Holocaust for shock value is considered appropriate.
