Houses host numberous events

Winter Carnival is hardly a tradition unique to Dartmouth. Nearby rivals Middlebury College and the University of Vermont are only two of the several Northeastern universities holding winter festivals replete with skiing, snow sculptures, and sporting events. The plethora of parties held by College Greek houses and undergraduate societies over the weekend help to distinguish Dartmouth's Winter Carnival from the rest of the pack.

Alpha Chi Alpha fraternity

Sand will blanket the floors of Alpha Chi this evening, as the brothers host their 19th annual Beach Party, one of Playboy Magazine's Top Ten College Parties. The closed party will run from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Alpha Delta fraternity

The brothers of AD will host an open party tonight featuring the sounds of the band Far Cry, from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Tomorrow evening, the festivities will be closed, as the house holds a semi-formal with the sisters of Kappa.

Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity

The brothers of Alpha Phi will be co-sponsoring an open party at Amarna tonight, with a "Fire and Ice" theme combining the symbols of both organizations. The action will begin promptly at 11:06 p.m. and will feature DJ Drew Spencer '97 on the turntables.

Alpha Theta coed fraternity

Alpha Theta hosts its traditional Friday 'tails this evening, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Amarna undergraduate society

The members of Amarna will stay busy hosting Friday evening's "Fire and Ice" festivity with the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha.

Beta Theta Pi fraternity

The brothers of Beta will celebrate Friday evening with their traditional "Dry Dance" featuring brothers lip-synching to contemporary tunes. The closed event will begin at 10 p.m.

Chi Gamma Epsilon fraternity

Chi Gam will celebrate the Carnival weekend with a disc-jockeyed blast from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday night.

Chi Heorot fraternity

After what social chair John Schwab '97 termed "long, dark months of exile," the brothers of Heorot will host a "Back in Black" party Saturday night from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m., featuring spin wizard DJ Eric Howard '95.

Delta Delta Delta sorority

The sisters of Tri-Delta will host a bagel brunch Sunday morning for sisters and visiting alumni.

Delta Gamma sorority

The sisters of Delta Gamma will celebrate Carnival quietly, holding a closed event for sisters and alumni Saturday evening.

Epsilon Kappa Theta sorority

While the sisters of Theta will be holding, according to Theta social chair Jennifer Hill '97, "sister bonding" Saturday evening, there will be no open events.

Gamma Delta Chi fraternity

Gamma Delta Chi will ring in Winter Carnival with a party featuring campus band The Sellouts this evening from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Kappa Delta Epsilon sorority

The sisters of KDE will celebrate Carnival by hosting a closed cocktail party this Friday evening and a closed sister pancake breakfast Saturday morning. Prior to Phi Delt's Saturday evening party, the sisters will hold closed 'tails at Phi Delt.

Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority

The sisters of Kappa will be co-sponsoring a closed semi-formal Saturday evening at Alpha Delta fraternity.

Panarchy undergraduate society

On the heels of last night's dance party, the members of Panarchy will hold an open party featuring the funk-jazz tunes of Michael Ray and the Cosmic Krewe tonight, from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

Phi Delta Alpha fraternity

Music will fill the halls of Phi Delt Saturday night, as the brothers host a party with live music from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.. Closed 'tails will be held with the sisters of KDE earlier in the evening.

Phi Tau coed fraternity

The brothers and sisters will hold their annual Changeover dinner Saturday evening for brothers, sisters, and alumni. Following the dinner will be a closed house dance.

Psi Upsilon fraternity

Tonight the brothers of Psi-U will host a party featuring the new sounds of the visiting band Strange Folk. Tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 p.m., the brothers will hold their traditional keg-jumping contest on the house rink.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity

The brothers of SAE will greet visiting alumni with a closed reception held Saturday evening.

Sigma Delta sorority

The sisters of Sigma Delt will co-sponsor Alpha Chi's traditional Beach Party tonight, then hold a series of sister-only events over the weekend.

Sigma Nu fraternity

The sounds of the Reagan era will return to the halls of Sigma Nu this evening as the brothers host their early '80s party, featuring DJ Jason Duty, from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m..

Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity

Smooth beers and orgasm mixed drinks will be prominently featured at Sig Ep's Saturday party, featuring tunes spun by DJ "Don Juan" DeMarco and lasting from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.
