With more and more snow being dumped on Dartmouth each day, the Dartmouth Skiway predicts excellent slopes and good business for the remainder of the Winter term.
The Dartmouth Skiway is continuing its fourth good ski year in a row, according to Skiway Manager Don Cutter '73.
"This has been one of the snowiest Decembers ever," he said. "We set an all time record during the Christmas season. When there is snow, skiers come to ski."
The Dartmouth Skiway has enjoyed profits for the past three seasons after going profitless for the past seven years.
"Between Dec. 14 and Jan. 15, we had 15,772 skiers," Cutter said. "That's about three times the number we had last year."
"Last year we had a total of 40,235 skiers, so considering we've only been open for a month, that's very strong," he said.
Cutter reported that the Skiway has sold almost 1,000 ski passes to Dartmouth students this year. "Last year we sold 818 passes," he said.
This year, the Skiway sports a new ski-slope grooming machine and a refurbished kitchen facility and cafeteria area.
The cafeteria area is being run by Dartmouth Dining Services under the supervision of Courtyard Cafe Manager Cynthia Hart.
"Dining services was asked to operate the food facility there as of last year," Hart said. "We've made minor changes including refurbishment and a new electric char grill."
Many familiar items from the Courtyard Cafe are now being served at Skiway's cafeteria.
"We've put the most popular items at the Courtyard Cafe in the Skiway cafeteria," Hart said. "The cafeteria is staffed by Courtyard Cafe people. Three people from here work full time there."
Another new addition to Skiway is the ability to have meals charged to a Dartmouth account by students or staff, Hart said.
