Senior art exhibits open at the Hopkins Center

Every year, at the end of the Spring term, studio art senior majors display several selected works at the Jaffe-Friede Gallery at the Hopkins Center.

This year's student exhibition, which opened yesterday, comprises works by a strongly talented and innovative group of 20 artists.

The pieces currently on display are representative of many months of work in each individual artist's preferred concentration. Sculpture, painting, drawing, and photography and printmaking were the predominant works displayed.

Yesterday evening, the Gallery opened the exhibit to the public with reception and introduction to the works on display. Amidst the public crowd, artists wandered around the gallery, discussing their works with faculty, students and public present.

The exhibition provides each artist with the opportunity to publicly display their works and receive feedback from those who visit the gallery. As part of the curriculum for the studio art major, seniors must take a seminar prior to working on their projects, thus bringing their four years of art education to a close. Honor students have their works displayed as well.

At the reception, the Office of Residential Life presented certificates of award to several recipients of the Class of 1960 Student Acquisition Program.

This year, ORL selected 11 student works to purchase and install in residential halls and public areas throughout the College.

Dean of ORL Mary Turco said, "It helps promote artists in their continuing with their works as well as providing the college with such extraordinary selected artistic pieces."

Students who accepted ORL's award will be able to select the location of their pieces.Since its initiation, five years ago, the Program has purchased about 75 works. Spencer Morgan '60 handed out the awards.

The exhibition is an event everyone of the Dartmouth community should visit and support. The senior exhibit is one of the fewrecognitions of student talent on campus.

Graduating senior artists whose works are on display are: Yasamam Ayat, Jeffrey Battema, Manushka Bazin, Amy Byrd, Takahito Kent Dahn, Katina Foy, Greg George, Priscilla Gilman, Jacob Hobson, Andrew Kim, Alicia Lisowski, Laura Lutsk, Abigail Neisius, Malika Ra, Marcin Ramocki, Amy Reed, Enrico Riley, Charles Ross, Wendy Steadman, and Kristen Stromberg

The exhibition will be open from May 16 to June 11.
