No harm done in poking fun at Harvard

To the Editor:

In response to Dan Hogins '98's column ("Harvard Bashing is Pointless," April 13, 1995) on how horrible it is for us to make fun of Harvard University, I'd like to say, "lighten up."

Having spent last summer attending classes at Harvard, I'm probably more aware than most how overrated the 'oldest college in America' actually is. The reason why Dartmouth students poke fun at Crimsonites is not due to an inferiority complex on our part, but a superiority complex on their's.

We do make fun of the other Ivies, but the ridicule of Harvard is more overt because its misleading reputation makes its name come up more than the others. (When was the last time you saw a Brown student as the protagonist -- or even a minor character -- in a movie?)

Yes, in attending Dartmouth over Harvard or any of the other Ivies, we will have the last laugh, but why not have a few in the meantime as well?
