Police nab one thief, still looking for another

Hanover Police are currently investigating one theft that occurred this weekend and have made an arrest in another case.

Hanover Police arrested Michael Fitzgibbons at 7:00 a.m. Sunday for allegedly stealing furniture, pool table equipment and a microwave from Alpha Delta fraternity house. Fitzgibbons, a 19-year-old from Brookline, Mass., does not attend the College.

A Safety and Security officer stopped a vehicle operated by Fitzgibbons on Fayerweather Hill behind Richardson residence hall.

Police charged Fitzgibbons with committing a felony-level theft.Possible penalties for a Class B felony include jail time of one to seven years and any other sentence the judge deems appropriate. There is no limit to the fine a judge can levy.

Fitzgibbons was released on personal recognizance and $1,000 bail. He will appear in Hanover District Court on April 12.

"I don't even know who it was," said AD President Matt Miller '96. "I know nothing about it except that it happened."

Also this weekend, a Perinesi etching was allegedly stolen from Sherman Art Library.

Hanover Police said it currently has no suspects, and would not comment further.

The alleged theft took place either Friday night or early Saturday morning, said Marjorie Whyte, a serials assistant at the library.

"There was kind of a gaping hole where it had been," Whyte said.

Whyte said she discovered the etching was missing when she arrived at the library Saturday morning.

Whyte said the etching was one of several Perinesi etchings at the library.
