In 'good hands' with Safety and Security

To the Editor:

One night last week, I left my bike in the hall outside my room, which I feel comfortable doing here in Hanover. Maybe it's the fact that there are 80 other bikes outside my room that are not secured that gives me sort of a safety in numbers sensation. The next day I awoke at 6:00 a.m. to go to my ski meet. I was about to hop on my bike when I realized that it was gone.

That night, I began my quest to get my bike back. I Broadcast people in my dorm, randomly. Someone actually wrote back saying he had seen some fraternity brothers riding it and throwing it around in a basement. I went to Safety and Security to see if they might be able to check out this lead.

Officer Greg Henderson asked me if my bike had bar ends. Indeed it did. He told me to look between Wheeler Hall and Rollins Chapel under a tree. There, I found my bike, entirely buried except for a pedal and a bar end.

The fact that I had lost my bike that morning, and that Henderson had this small, obscure aberration in Hanover's scene logged in his brain for a time when it may be important shows that we are indeed in good hands.
