The Dartmouth

Welcome to The D

The 1996 Directorate would like to welcome you to a new year of The Dartmouth.

Every January, a new team of editors assumes control of America's oldest college newspaper. The editors of The Dartmouth hope to provide a first-rate newspaper for the Dartmouth community five days a week.

The Dartmouth will continue to provide complete coverage of every important event on campus, along with analysis and features.

Dartmouth College does not operate in a bubble. The Dartmouth will look at national events-like the recent Republican sweep of Congress-to see how they will change life at the College.

Also, next Tuesday, The Dartmouth will introduce an "In Focus" page, dedicated to profiles and feature stories that sometimes get lost in the shuffle of a daily newspaper. Although the In Focus page replaces the Health page, The Dartmouth still will cover health issues that affect the community.

The Education and Around Hanover pages will continue to appear in their regular locations on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

The Weekend Gazette will continue to be the home of entertaining in-depth stories investigating trends, issues and student life at the College.

The arts page will again feature previews and reviews of arts at the College, popular music and movies and profiles of interesting artists on campus.

Better game coverage, more pictures, sports features and sports-related news are just some of the things you can look forward to on our dramatically improved sports page.

The comment page will continue to highlight student opinion but will give more of a voice to the Dartmouth faculty, a group that can provide more perspective on national and campus events.

Although the paper currently looks the same, on Jan. 23, The Dartmouth will introduce a new, improved newspaper, completely redesigned from the ground up. The new paper will be more graphically pleasing, with fewer stories on the front page and more pictures, and a more reader friendly appearance.

The Dartmouth is produced by Dartmouth students for the Dartmouth community. The 1996 Directorate hopes to serve the community to the best of our abilities. If you have a complaint, if you have a story idea, blitz "The Dartmouth."

We are here to listen and to inform.
