To the Editor:
Your article on BlitzMail in the weekend gazette was seriously deficient in at least one respect: there are two critical components of the BlitzMail system: client and server. Jim Matthews has done a stellar job on the client software that runs in everyone's mac. However, that software would have no value without the server software which currently runs on several computers in Kiewit. It's the servers that are transmitting and storing those 90,000 messages a day and allowing you to access your e-mail from anywhere on campus (or, for that matter, the world). The servers do such a good job that most people are never aware of their existence.
The server software was primarily developed and ported to newer hardware twice by David Gelhar (whose name you didn't spell correctly in your article). David deserves as much credit for BlitzMail as the other members of the team.
