Six Student Assembly members marched out into the snowy night and began their crusade to preserve Webster Hall at 11:15 p.m. last night.
The members planned to distribute posters, which advocated student support to save the building, around campus in a car.
As Assembly President Rukmini Sichitiu '95 left the warmth of the car to gather her crew into the vehicle, she said, "we're just hanging up posters."
She said a rally to save the building is still in the planning stages.
Other Assembly members who gathered last night included newly elected Student Assembly Vice President John Honovich '97, Bill Kartalopoulos '97, and Meredith Epstein '97.
The event marked the beginning of the Assembly's informational campaign designed to promote campus-wide awareness of the proposed conversion of Webster Hall into a Special Collections library.
The Assembly either wants the administration to stop the conversion of Webster Hall or appropriate $10 million to build a similar-sized venue to hold programming events.
The poster mentioned several recent events held in the building and questioned, "Where will we go to see them without Webster Hall?"
The Assembly unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday night calling for the informational campaign. The resolution states that Webster Hall is the only facility suitable for crowds of 400 to 800 people and it is a centrally located, historically significant and alcohol-free social programming space.
