Several Greek organizations will hold rush this week and the entire Greek system will elect new leadership before the end of the week.
Many of the College's fraternities and coed houses will be holding informal rush this week, but the sororities will not hold any formal rush period, said Deb Reinders, assistant dean of residential life.
Although some organizations will hold informal rush, "this is not a College formal rush period," Reinders said.
"If they want to do intake, it's up to the individual sub-councils. There is no formal rush for sororities this term."
Chi Heorot President Darren Peers '96 said all fraternities except Beta Theta Pi and Psi Upsilon will hold rush this Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
The coed houses will also be holding rush this week, according to Alpha Theta President Kevin Bailey '97.
"We do it every term," Bailey said. "Wednesday and Thursday nights we'll have open houses for people to get to know the membership."
Departing Panhellinic Council President Melissa Trumbull '95 said sororities will not be holding rush this term because there did not seem to be a big demand for it. Sororities held rush in the winter last year, and 36 new members joined houses.
"There did not seem to be a big push for it this season," Trumbull said. "Last year, a lot of women didn't get bids and a lot of women were off-campus. That wasn't there this term."
Reinders said any sorority under the quota of 41 members per class may choose to extend open bids to women. Open bids allow a woman to join the sorority at any time.
Reinders said she did not know when the sororities would begin to extend open bids.
Last night, Panhell elected Dani Brune '96 as president and Jessica Drolet '96 as vice president.
"I'm really excited," Brune said. "All the women on Panhell seem really interested in making it a better body than it has been in the past."
Brune was Panhell president over the summer.
The Interfraternity Council moved its elections yesterday to Thursday night so houses could choose their IFC delegates at Wednesday meetings, Peers said.
The Coed, Fraternity and Sorority Council will also hold its elections on Thursday, Reinders said.
