The New York Mets promoted Dave Howard '82 to the vice president position last week, according to a press statement from the team.
Howard graduated from Dartmouth magna cum laude with a degree in economics. After graduation, he went to Fordham University School of Law, where he ranked second in his class of 250 and worked as managing editor of the Fordham Law Review. He graduated cum laude and received his J.D. degree, the press release stated.
When he attended Dartmouth, Howard was a letter-winning quarterback for the 1981 Ivy League Champions, played for the Big Green baseball team and was also a co-leader of the Athletes in Action program, according to the release.
After graduating from Fordham, Howard worked as a law clerk for the Hon. George C. Pratt, United States Circuit Judge for the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, as an attorney for the firm of Davis Polk & Wardell and as an Associate Counsel for the Office of the Commissioner for Major League Baseball, the release stated.
In February of 1992, Howard was named the first General Counsel in the club's history and ealy this year the responsibilities of Corporate Secretary were added to his position, according to the statement.
As Vice President, the 34-year-old Rockville Centre, N.Y. resident will be involved in negotiating contracts with various business associations, developing business strategies for the Mets and assisting in the implementation of the new stadium project.
"Dave is a multi-talented individual who is able to assist our organization in so many ways," Nelson Doubleday, the Mets' chairman of the Board, said in the release. "His expertise and common-sense approach to daily occurances will be of invaluable help to us in both the business and baseball sides of our operation."
