Union's Nazi Analogy Inappropriate

To the Editor:

Local 560, one of Dartmouth's service employee unions, has sponsored a poster that has appeared of late around campus. It features the well-known quotation from Pastor Niemoeller about how he kept silent when the Nazis came after the Jews, then the Communists, then the trade unionists, which left no one to speak out when the Nazis came after him. A caption beneath this reads, "They've come for your benefits -- are you going to speak out?"

As much as I am in solidarity with the international labor movement, I would have to say that losing one's dental benefits is not the same as being gassed. Is Local 560 trying to do "Snead Hearn" one better?
