Women's swim team extends win streak

The women's swim team's win against the University of Vermont on Wednesday gave them the longest winning streak since the 1978-1979 season.

The 145-175 win brought their winning streak to 5, and their overall record to 6-3, a far cry from the slow beginning of their season. The Big Green dominated the battle, placing first in all but one event.

Coach Betsy Mitchell said: "We had the luxury in this meet to put swimmers in different events. They raced really well in events they're not used to swimming."

Captain Cory Murphy '95 of Hanover led the Big Green effort with outstanding wins in the 200 and 100 freestyle. Murphy also anchored Dartmouth's 200 free relay to bring the team closer to victory. Murphy said she has gained the most satisfaction this year by the "success and enthusiasm of the team as a whole, and how we've matured and grown this season."

Sophomore Deb Whitney continued her success this season winning the 100 butterfly, in which she holds the varsity record. Other Dartmouth winners included Alyson Wilson '97 in the 100 backstroke, sophomore Kathy Luz in the 500 freestyle, and freshman Natasha Lam in the 100 backstroke. Lam just out- touched the second place finisher in her exciting race in which she swam her personal best time ever. Diver Sarah Hobson '97 aided the team effort with her stellar performance on the three meter board.

The relay team, comprised of freshman Anne Gibson, Andrea Hill, Amy Schneeberger and Kerry McCloskey, took first in the 200 medley.
