Woman killed, son in custody following active shooter alert at DHMC

UPDATE: September 12, 8:25 p.m.: Attorney General Gordon MacDonald confirmed that a 70-year-old woman was killed at DHMC today. The suspect in custody is the son of the slain woman. No other patients, visitors or staff were physically injured as a result of the incident.

UPDATE: September 12, 3:06 p.m.: Lebanon police have confirmed the suspect is in custody. The hospital is still in lockdown and police are sweeping the building. The investigation is "unfolding," according to NH Attorney General Gordon MacDonald.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon was evacuated after issuing an "active shooter" alert this afternoon. 

Lebanon police received a report of a shooting at DHMC at 1:25 p.m. The incident took place in the Intensive Care Unit on the fourth floor of the hospital, according to NH Attorney General Gordon MacDonald. The suspect was apprehended without incident by Lebanon and Canaan police as he attempted to leave the grounds of the hospital.

Schools in the area were temporarily locked down. The main Dartmouth College campus was not locked down and classes were not canceled.
