Inside the Locker Room

As an athlete, one of the key factors that determines a game experience is the crowd that is there watching. With a season of very few home matches and a lot of traveling, home court advantage was not something the squash team experienced frequently this year. While memories of our rowdy home matches are some of my most treasured, much of our season is played far from Hanover, away from the cheering excitement of the Dartmouth faithful.

Although most people picture Dartmouth athletes constantly decked out in uniform, game ready and prepped to crush a fellow Ivy in league play, the reality of life as an athlete is honestly more determined by “off” seasons than “on” seasons. Competition generally only spans one term, but off-season training is all-encompassing and year-round.

Being a member of a team is not just about competing, it’s about the community. We play, practice and eat together, but one of the biggest ways that we bond is through travel.
