The women's basketball team kicked off their '97-98 campaign in Southern style, playing in the Ivy-Southern Challenge in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Saturday and Sunday.
Picture it: ninety minutes into the match, your team has lost its first two matches and is down a set on the three other courts.
Playing some of the most powerful teams in the East at the ITA Regionals in New Haven, the Dartmouth women's tennis team performed creditably.
On Tuesday, the women's tennis team buried UMass on the Topliff courts by a score of 9-0. The matches were hard-fought, but the result was lopsided as the Big Green came away with the sweep of the Minutemen.
He may not throw chairs like Indiana's Bobby Knight and at 5-foot-4, he may not intimidate referees like Georgetown's John Thompson. But Dartmouth men's basketball coach Dave Faucher succeeds in his own way and with his own style.
"Sweep" was the catchword this weekend, as the Big Green took two on the road from Brown and Yale for the first time in 25 years.
This season's roller coaster ride took another dip this weekend as the Big Green men's basketball team dropped games on the road to powers Pennsylvania and Princeton. The losses virtually eliminated the Big Green from Ivy title contention, although few doubted that Penn would win it this year, anyhow. Pennsylvania 73, Dartmouth 62 On Friday, at the intimidating Palestra in Philadelphia, Penn., the men kept the game close before falling, 73-62.
The Big Green will assay for their shot at the Ivy League title this weekend when they take on league-leading Penn and stingy Princeton in a pair of tough road games. To have a shot at the elusive Ivy crown, Dartmouth needs to win both games.
