Dartmouth profs earn less than profs earn elsewhere

Full-time professors at Dartmouth make an average of $101,500, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Panhell organizes pre-rush registration
By Nicholas Ostrow | October 23, 2001The Panhellenic Council recently concluded winter rush registration for unaffiliated eligible women -- although leaders seemed confused about the success of the event, in terms of number of people interested compared to previous years. Throughout the week, 193 women registered for winter rush and 34 registered for spring rush.

Screw, Shag and Bang: a different sort of vocabulary
By Nicholas Ostrow | October 17, 2001"Hook up," according to the Oxford English Dictionary, is a verb that means to establish a link or to make a connection with. But to people in their teens and 20s, "hook up" means physical intimacy that can range from kissing to sexual intercourse. This word is just one of many that belongs on the unwritten list of vocabulary used to describe relationships and activities between two people who are intimately involved with each other. Because of its very unwritten nature, "hook-up vocabulary" promulgates misunderstandings and misconceptions.

College VP/Treasurer calls it quits
By Nicholas Ostrow | October 12, 2001Dartmouth College Vice President and Treasurer Win Johnson '67 announced yesterday that he is stepping down from his position at the College. Johnson, who also serves on The Dartmouth's Board of Proprietors, has worked with the College for almost 20 years and has held his current position for the past four. However, his decision to step down did not come as a surprise to many of his colleagues, including senior College officials.

October is Coming Out Month
By Nicholas Ostrow | October 11, 2001In a joint effort to increase campus consciousness of sexuality issues, the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Questioning Ally group and other student organizations have declared October to be National Coming Out Month at Dartmouth. The LGBTQA, the Gay-Straight Alliance and the Dartmouth Rainbow Alliance have worked with groups such as Hillel and Sigma Nu to plan events throughout the month.

Economy reduces job options

After the events that transpired in New York City, however, seniors at Dartmouth seeking employment will face somewhat limited options this year. The immediate effects of the terrorist attacks have structurally damaged some companies to a degree such that recruiters will not visit Dartmouth. Cantor Fitzgerald is among a few companies that will not recruit at Dartmouth at all this year due to the attacks, according to Asst.
