Main Street Museum provides a quirky getaway

Turandot and Falstaff premiere at Lebanon's Opera North

Celebrating its 25th year of musical performance and top-quality opera, Opera North in Lebanon presents performances of Puccini's Turandot, as well as Verdi's Falstaff, which will run through the month of August. This year's performance of Turandot, Puccini's final work, is a 20th- century Western adaptation of ancient Eastern folklore, reflecting both the historical European conception of China as a barbaric land, and the West's captivation by the exoticism of Chinese culture.

As food vendors packed the sidewalks of Main Street, Hanover retailers such as Juliana, Bella and Folk used the StreetFest as an opportunity to sell items remaining from previous seasons at reduced prices.

Hanover joins anti-carbon campaign

A rally and celebration expected to include local organic food, environmental speakers, music and dance performers, and carbon-reduction petition booths will flood the Green on April 14 when community members and students will gather to protest current carbon emission levels in the United States. Hanover and the surrounding towns of Norwich, Thetford, Hartford, White River Junction Lebanon and Lyme are some of the 1,000 towns nationwide that plan to participate in 2007's "Step It Up" campaign against climate change, which will be the largest day of rallying and citizen activism against carbon emissions to date. Citizens participating in the campaign will sign petitions demanding that Congress cut carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050.
