Men's soccer holds lead to beat Maine

A late goal by freshman Alan Lemley gave the men's soccer team a 2-1 road victory over Maine. The win ended the Big Green's four game losing streak and improved the team's record to 3-10 on the season. The Big Green took the lead in the first half when forward Hunter Paschall '96 scored his team leading seventh goal to put the Big Green ahead 1-0.

Field hockey wins in overtime

The women's field hockey team came back from a 2-0 deficit yesterday afternoon to upset the University of Massachusetts 3-2 in overtime. The Big Green, now 8-5, were down 2-0 with ten minutes remaining in the game but refused to die.

Athlete of the Week

Sara Vogler '96, a member of the women's golf team, has consistently led the Big Green linksters to impressive results this fall, earning her this week's Athlete of the Week award. Last weekend in the ECAC Championships at Princeton, Vogler shot a 75, the lowest one day score of the tournament. "She played great," Captain Heidi Corderman '96 said.

Men's soccer loses to Cornell in overtime

A 1-0 double overtime loss at Cornell on Sunday gave the men's soccer team its fourth-straight one goal loss and ended any aspirations the team may have had for the Ivy League crown. The loss, which was the Big Green's third straight Ivy League defeat, dropped the team to 2-11 overall and 1-3 in Ivy League play.

Big Green squashes Colgate in Homecoming game

Neither the rain nor the 25 mph gusts of wind could stop the fate of the swamp fest Saturday at Memorial Field, as the Dartmouth football team added its own version of Big Green celebration on the centennial anniversary of Dartmouth weekend. Dartmouth, now 4-2 on the year, attacked early and decisively against a smaller and younger Colgate team, in the midst of its worst record [0-7] in school history. The Big Green built a 35-0 half-time lead and then coasted the rest of the way to take the Homecoming victory, and a little sweet revenge from the Red Raiders of Colgate, to the tune of a 35-14 shellacking in front of 6,021 drenched fans. The women's soccer team dropped its record to an even .500 yesterday afternoon after losing to Cornell 3-1. The game had been scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.

Rugby club clinches New England title

The Men's Rugby team wrapped up its defense of the New England Division I Championship with a Homecoming victory over Harvard on Saturday. Along with the repeat title, the team improved to 6-0, extending a streak of 15 regular season wins stretching back to 1993 and guaranteeing themselves a first round home game in the Northeastern Rugby Union playoffs. Harvard gave the Green the challenge that was expected from the traditional rivalry.

Big Green defense unstoppable

The Dartmouth football team has had its share of ups and downs this year, but one stabilizing force for the Big Green has been their defense. While the offense, which has been a mix of different quarterbacks, a new running back and an injured receiver has proven to be inconsistent at times, the Dartmouth defense has undoubtedly led this Big Green squad to a its current winning record. "There is really good chemistry between everyone," co-Captain Taran Lent '96 said.

Women's crew prepares for Charles

As the minds of many at Dartmouth are focused this week on the excitement of homecoming weekend, the women of Dartmouth crew have been excitedly gearing up for the Head of the Charles Regatta, which will take place this Sunday on the famous Charles River in Boston. The Big Green plan to enter boats in both the champ eight and the youth eight categories.

Zach Walz '98, a defensive line backer on the Big Green football squad proved through his performance last weekend at Yale to be a force to be reckoned with, making him this week's Athlete of the Week. Walz led the Dartmouth defense with five tackles, three of which dropped the Bulldogs for losses.
