Cross-country competes at NCAA pre-nationals

|

Despite a strong showing by Chris Zablocki '10 at the NCAA Pre-Nationals this past weekend at Indiana State University, the Dartmouth men's cross-country team finished in the middle of the pack, placing 16th out of 35 teams. Coming off of a sixth-place finish at the Paul Short Invitational, the team was looking to improve even more at this meet. "I was very excited going into this invitational," coach Barry Harwick said.

Equestrian team bucks competition in back-to-back shows

Dartmouth's equestrian team competed in back-to-back events this weekend, overcoming both freezing snow conditions and unruly horses to finish second out of seven teams at Saturday's Dartmouth Show and third out of nine teams Sunday at Colby-Sawyer College. At the Dartmouth show, the Big Green trotted all over most of its competition, nabbing four first-place finishes and three second-place finishes. Coming up big for Dartmouth was co-captain Cristina Herren '12, who won the intermediate fences.

Soccer beats rival Penn to stay undefeated in Ancient Eight

|

The No. 16 Dartmouth men's soccer team claimed the first-place rank in the Ivy League this Sunday, defeating last year's co-Ivy League champion, the University of Pennsylvania, 3-1 in Philadelphia, Pa. Snowy and rainy conditions postponed the game by a day, but Dartmouth (8-2-1, 3-0-0 Ivy) was not deterred, as three different goal scorers helped to secure the victory for the Big Green. Winger Austin Bowers '11 found the net early in the first half to give the Big Green a short-lived early lead, until Penn (4-6-3, 0-2-1 Ivy) responded just 10 minutes later.

CHRISTOPHER RHOADES / The Dartmouth After handily defeating interstate rival the University of New Hampshire 2-1 last Sunday at Burnham Field, the Dartmouth women's soccer team fell 5-1 in a crucial Ivy League match against the University of Pennsylvania yesterday in Philadelphia. In yesterday's tough loss, four of the Quakers' (8-3-2, 2-2-0 Ivy) goals came in the first half, with the lone Big Green (6-6-0, 2-2-0 Ivy) goal coming from Myra Sack '10 in the 17th minute off an assist from Ali Hubbard '10.

Volleyball drops weekend doubleheader to Penn, Princeton

|

CHRISTOPHER RHOADES / The Dartmouth In its first Ivy League doubleheader at home this season, the Dartmouth women's volleyball team fell to both the powerhouse University of Pennsylvania and to Princeton in four sets, dropping Dartmouth to a third-place tie with Harvard and Cornell in the Ivy League. After winning the first three league matchups of the season, the Big Green (7-9, 3-3 Ivy) has now lost its last three. "As a team, I think we lost sight of our goals for the match and underestimated our opponent," co-captain Morgan Covington '10 said. Penn (14-4, 5-0 Ivy) continued to dominate Ivy foes, remaining undefeated after last weekend's doubleheader.

Toe to Toe: Best fall sport (Dolan)

In my mind, we really shouldn't even be having this debate. If we are considering all Dartmouth fall sports, both club and varsity, it's pretty obvious that the Dartmouth men's rugby team is by far the most dominant.

ONE-ON-ONE: Cobb and Alderman

|

I sat down with two Big Green field hockey players, Katherine Cobb '12 and Sarah Alderman '12, and discussed what would happen if I were on the team. First off, how annoying is it that you can't hit the ball with the other side of the stick? KC: Well, we've always been trained to play like that, so it's something that we're used to.
