Taylor Ng ’17 shines in ITA All-Americans

Taylor Ng ’17 caught fire in Los Angeles, reaching the qualifying rounds for the ITA All-American Championships. The Dartmouth sophomore cooled off yesterday, however, falling in straight sets to Stanford University sophomore Caroline Doyle 6-2, 6-1 before besting DePaul University junior Ana Vladutu 6-3, 6-1.

The men’s soccer team hopes to extend its unbeaten streak to five against UVM this afternoon.

Men’s soccer hits the road to face UVM

Men’s soccer heads to Burlington to face the University of Vermont this afternoon in its final non-league game before the Ancient Eight schedule begins at Princeton University on Saturday. After collecting a 2-0 over Fordham University last Saturday, the Big Green (3-2-1, 0-0-0 Ivy) looks to push its unbeaten streak to five games against a Vermont team (5-3-1, 0-0-0 America East) fresh off a 1-0 loss to Central Connecticut State University.

Hughes ’15 to captain USA in rugby sevens

Madison Hughes ’15 already boasts a number of rugby accolades: two-time Big Green captain, three-time Collegiate 15s All-American, two-time Collegiate sevens All-American (he wanted a “rest” year), collegiate 15s All-American captain and two-time representative of the U.S. in sevens. Now, he is captain of the national team, which will head to the Gold Coast Sevens in Australia next month for the first leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series. The team plays Canada Oct. 11 and hopes to establish USA Rugby as force to reckoned with, Hughes said.

Field hockey offense leads to two wins

A nine-goal offensive explosion lifted the field hockey team above Brown University and Bryant University this weekend, its first two wins of the year. The Big Green (2-5, 1-1 Ivy) dominated Brown 6-1 Saturday, then edged out Bryant 3-2 in overtime on Sunday. Dartmouth’s offensive performance marked a great improvement for the team, and suggests that their early season woes might be over. The weekend ended a two-game goalless streak and a five-game losing streak.

I sat down with Tyler Sikura ’15, the captain of the men’s hockey team. After a disappointing first half last season, the Big Green surged to move up in the playoff standings. The team upset No. 7 seed Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before falling in two games to No. 1 seed Union College. Last week, the team was picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll.

Football falls short at UNH 52-19

Dartmouth (1-1, 0-0 Ivy) fell behind early and could never fully recover from the Wildcats’ (3-1, 1-0 CAA) dominant start.

Women’s soccer ties Brown in Ivy opener

High temperatures and a persistent Brown University squad held the women’s soccer team to a 1-1 tie in the Big Green’s Ivy League opener at Burnham Field, which extended its home unbeaten streak to 16 games. Lucielle Kozlov ’16 scored midway through the first half for Dartmouth. The Big Green (3-2-2) held this lead until the 88th minute, when Brown junior Erin Katz scored to send it to overtime.

Volleyball upsets Harvard in Ivy opener

In a gripping battle against powerhouse Harvard University, the volleyball team improved to 10-2 overall and 1-0 in Ivy League action, winning three sets to one on Saturday. In its first conference match, before a crowd that included proud Dartmouth volleyball alumnae, the Big Green rallied through four grueling sets at Leede Arena to deliver Harvard its first loss of the season, ending the Crimson’s five-game win streak.

Ryan McManus ’15 makes triumphant return to Big Green

The senior from Mendota Heights, Minnesota, has seen a career filled with ups and downs. After seeing limited action in his first season in Hanover, Ryan McManus '15 broke out in his sophomore campaign, finishing the season with 42 catches for 664 yards, good for second on the team and eighth in the Ivy League, which earned him an All-Ivy honorable mention. He's hopeful about this fall.

Adelabu ’15 sparks men’s soccer’s high hopes

Once the fall soccer season ends, Alex Adelabu ’15 is looking to devote himself to acting and yoga, learn how to swim and continue to focus on his Christian faith. Men’s golf opens season with back-to-back tournament wins

This weekend’s two-day tournament came down to just one stroke for the men’s golf team, in its second straight tournament win, this one at Cornell University’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. Driven by Ian Kelsey ’18 in his first college tournament, the Big Green won the 15-team tournament by just one stroke over the University of Delaware and the University of Pennsylvania. Kelsey was Dartmouth’s top performer in the tournament, finishing with a seven-over-par 220 through three rounds. This score tied Kelsey for third, just two strokes behind the eventual winner, senior Blake Carter from Longwood University.

Coaching strength lifts women’s rugby above Princeton team

Guided by new coaching and shifts in training, the women’s rugby team eviscerated Princeton University in its first Ivy League game of the season by a lopsided score of 62-3. In last year’s win over Princeton, the final score was 7-5 in favor the Big Green. Senior captain and three-year veteran Allie Brouckman ’15 attributed the team’s growth coming into the season to intense preseason training implemented by returning head coach Debra Archambault ’85 and new assistant coach Candi Orsini.

Women’s soccer wins nailbiter in 2OT at home

Setting the stage for a 4-0 win at the University of Vermont yesterday, the women’s soccer team won a double overtime thriller against Northeastern University on Friday afternoon at Burnham Field 1-0. Lucielle Kozlov ’16 netted the remarkable game-winner with just 14 ticks remaining in double overtime to extend the Big Green’s home unbeaten streak to 15 games.

The Big Green exploded in the second half to beat UMass Lowell.

Men’s soccer cruises against UMass Lowell

In a dominating home effort in front of a raucous Burnham Field crowd, the men’s soccer team put up four goals to none against the University of Massachusetts at Lowell on Friday. After a slow start, the Big Green (2-2-0, 0-0-0 Ivy) exploded in the second half for three goals, including two in just 1:10 to seal the victory.
