Men’s soccer falls 2-1 to Penn at home

Despite a valiant second-half effort, the men’s soccer team took its first Ivy League loss, 2-1, against the University of Pennsylvania Saturday. This match marked the 63rd time the Big Green (7-4-1, 2-1 Ivy) was pitted against the Quakers (6-6-0, 2-1 Ivy), the defending Ivy-League Champions. Women’s soccer bests Penn 2-0

The women’s soccer team beat the University of Pennsylvania 2-0 in front of a raucous crowd on Homecoming Saturday at Burnham Field to break its five-game winless streak and notch this season’s first Ivy League win. Corey Delaney ’16 scored the first goal, her second of the season, and Jackie Friedman ’16 added the insurance tally to pace the Big Green (4-4-4, 1-0-3 Ivy) to the victory.

The women’s and men’s cross country teams scored 19th and 24th place finishes, respectively, at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational Friday in Madison. Hosted by the University of Wisconsin, this invitational featured some of the nation’s best cross country teams.

One on One with Alex Adelabu '15

I sat down with Alex Adelabu ’15, striker for the men’s soccer team, Wednesday after the team’s 3-1 loss to then-No. 23 Boston University. Adelabu, who leads the team in goals and points this season (five and 13, respectively) earned Ivy Player of the Week honors after two goals in three games for the Big Green. On Saturday, the team lost its first Ivy game of the season, 2-1 to the University of Pennsylvania.

Football preps to take on Holy Cross over Homecoming

Coming off a dramatic 38-31 victory over Yale University at the Yale Bowl, the Big Green returns to Hanover to take on the College of the Holy Cross in its homecoming matchup. Last year, the two teams met in Dartmouth’s home opener, and Holy Cross pulled out a 31-28 victory on a game-winning field goal with less than a minute remaining. The field goal capped off a 10-0 Crusader run to win the game. Holy Cross’s quarterback Peter Pujals was the star of the game, completing 25 of 37 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns in addition to rushing for another 125 yards and two scores.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams will look to continue their strong seasons and vie for a potential national championship berth Friday at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational in Madison. Hosted by the University of Wisconsin, this invitational will assemble the strongest teams in the entire country in what could be considered a preview for the November national championships.

The wily veteran was ready to spend his remaining years wasting away on a golf course (or editing the sports section), and the up-and-coming star was prepared to take his place.

Crew teams open season in Boston

The crew teams will travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts, this weekend for the 50th Head of the Charles Regatta — the largest two-day race of its kind, attracting entrants and spectators from across the globe. The Big Green lineup that started in Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to Boston University looked very different than the team that dominated Yale University and Penn University at Burnham Field earlier this season. Dartmouth (7-3-1, 2-0-0 Ivy) left many of its senior starters on the bench to start the game, including three of its top four point-scorers: Alex Adelabu ’15, Robin Alnas ’15 and Hugh Danilack ’15.

Williams ’16 takes a leap forward to lead Big Green football

Dalyn Williams ’16 is undoubtedly a special player. In his third year as a Big Green starting quarterback, Williams has taken a large leap forward, leading Dartmouth to a 2-0 start in the Ivy League while putting up some of the best stats of his career. Williams has primarily been known as a running quarterback in the past, but this year, he leads the Ivy League in touchdown-to-interception ratio with eight touchdowns to just two interceptions.

Hughes and Team USA finish ninth in World 7s

Madison Hughes ’15 captained the U.S. rugby team to a Bowl victory and a ninth-place overall finish at the first installment of the IRB Sevens World Series on Australia’s Gold Coast over the weekend. The tournament was Hughes’s first as captain of the Eagles and the beginning of a nine-leg tournament that ends in London in May 2015.

Late surge propels field hockey to win

The field hockey team earned a hard-fought 5-4 win on Monday against the College of the Holy Cross in its second overtime win of the season. The Big Green (4-7, 2-1 Ivy) rallied in the final seconds of the game against the Crusaders (3-12), scoring with no time on the clock, then notching the game-winner just 2:04 into the extra session.

Dartmouth notched its fourth tie of the season Saturday night in its scoreless match against Yale University at Burnham Field. The Big Green (3-3-4, 0-0-3 Ivy) outshot the Bulldogs (5-2-3, 0-1-2 Ivy) 16-7 on the night in a back-and-forth battle that extended its home unbeaten streak to 17 games.
