In the most crucial game of the year so far, the men’s soccer team (10-4-2, 4-1-1 Ivy League) takes on Brown University (5-5-6, 2-2-2 Ivy) Saturday on Burnham Field, looking to win its first Ancient Eight title since 2011.
In potentially the team’s most important game of the season, men’s soccer takes on Harvard University at Burnham Field Saturday night, looking to make up for last season’s matchup. The teams are the top two in the Ivy League standings, and Dartmouth enters the competition in a much better position than last year.
A pair of brothers have been crucial in the men’s soccer team’s resurgent 2014 campaign. Co-captain Hugh Danilack ’15 and Matt Danilack ’18 both found soccer at a young age and began playing early in elementary school, eventually joining recreation leagues. As their talent deepened, they moved onto travel teams. The brothers are on parallel tracks this season. The elder Danilack has scored eight points and the younger brother is right behind with seven, including three goals. Each notched his first collegiate goal within 15 minutes of the other against the University of Massachusetts at Lowell in late September.
The Big Green lineup that started in Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to Boston University looked very different than the team that dominated Yale University and Penn University at Burnham Field earlier this season. Dartmouth (7-3-1, 2-0-0 Ivy) left many of its senior starters on the bench to start the game, including three of its top four point-scorers: Alex Adelabu ’15, Robin Alnas ’15 and Hugh Danilack ’15.
Men’s soccer heads to Burlington to face the University of Vermont this afternoon in its final non-league game before the Ancient Eight schedule begins at Princeton University on Saturday. After collecting a 2-0 over Fordham University last Saturday, the Big Green (3-2-1, 0-0-0 Ivy) looks to push its unbeaten streak to five games against a Vermont team (5-3-1, 0-0-0 America East) fresh off a 1-0 loss to Central Connecticut State University.
In the schools’ first meeting, the men’s soccer team beat Fordham University 2-0 at Burnham Field. After a deadlocked first half, the Big Green (3-2-1, 0-0-0 Ivy) reevaluated its strategy, then capitalized on a few key opportunities to seal a victory.
