Women’s basketball drops to 1-3 in Ivy play

After defeating Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts to kick off Ivy League play on Jan. 10, the Dartmouth women’s basketball team suffered three consecutive home losses to Ivy League opponents, seeing its strongest start to a season in nine years come to a sour end.

Men’s hockey goes 2-0 on weekend

The Big Green beat the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers 3-1 on Friday night — the first time it has beaten RPI by more than one goal since Nov. 2012. Also, in his 21st collegiate game, Carl Hesler '18 netted the go-ahead goal to cement Dartmouth’s comeback 3-2 victory over the defending national champions, Union College.

Skiing places second of 16 teams at Vermont Carnival

Continuing its successful run in its second carnival, the Dartmouth ski team placed second at the Vermont Carnival on Jan. 23-24. After a close race, the Big Green finished the two-day carnival only 56 points behind the University of Vermont — who dominated both slalom races — and 102 points ahead of the University of New Hampshire, which placed third. for a total of 884 team points.

For the fourth time since the start of the HSBC Sevens World Series, Madison Hughes ’15 has been selected to captain the USA Eagles sevens squad. The Eagles embarked for Wellington, New Zealand for the fourth leg of the series, set to take place on Feb. 6 and 7.

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams hosted a thrilling Dartmouth Invitational last weekend, ending in first and second place overall finishes for the Big Green, respectively. The men’s team secured a resounding win, scoring 1,221.5 points and breaking three records while the women's team came in second by one point.

Squash teams score victories over Bates at home

The men’s and women’s squash teams came out on top in the first matches of their four-game home stands, as they both scored victories over Bates College at the Berry Squash Courts on Sunday. With decisive 7-2 victories, the No. 7 women (4-4, 0-3) topped No. 15 Bates (6-8), and the No. 11 men (3-5, 0-3) overcame the No. 16 Bobcats (7-7).

Women’s basketball falls to late Harvard run

After putting themselves on the scoreboard with Amber Mixon’s ’18 layup only seconds into the game, the Dartmouth women’s basketball team led the Harvard Crimson for all but 1:01 of the remaining 40 minutes of action on Saturday night. However, a furious late-game comeback by the visitors would change all of that.

Men’s hockey came back from a 2-2 tie at Colgate University to defeat Cornell University 5-2 this weekend.

Center ice, pressure on, alternate captain Eric Neiley ’15 goes right, left, right and comes back left to bury the puck in the back of the net — the Big Green’s first goal off a penalty shot in 12 years. Just over a minute into the first period, Neiley’s shot gave Dartmouth its first goal, setting the tone for the 5-2 win over Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

The Dartmouth men’s and women’s track and field teams continued their stellar winter seasons with strong team victories against the University of Maine, the University of Vermont and Colgate University on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Leverone Field House. Nordic and alpine ski teams runner-ups at Bates Carnival

Kicking off the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association Carnival Season, the men and women’s ski teams placed second out of 16 teams at the Bates Carnival competition held at Sunday River Resort and Black Mountain for alpine and nordic, respectively. Maine from Jan. 16 to Jan. 17. The Big Green finished with 854 points and trailed the University of Vermont’s team, who earned 914 points after winning both slalom races.

Last Sunday, many of us witnessed one of the greatest comebacks to ever occur in a playoff football game. The game perfectly illustrated why football can be such a thrilling ride, and how it can leave many of us craving more. Unfortunately, the only football this Sunday will be the annual Pro Bowl, which epitomizes the fact that All-Star games in professional sports never live up to their potential.
