Friday was an exciting night, as the Big Green women's lacrosse team finished out their regular season with a final Ivy League win against Harvard University under the lights. Co-captains Hana Bowers '13, Kelsey Johnson '13 and Courtney Bennett '13, and Ellie Clayton '13, Casey Griffin '13, Kyra Hansson '13 and Julia Szafman '13 put on an impressive performance in their last home game at Scully-Fahey field. The Big Green rounded out the regular season with nine wins and six losses and finished 5-2 in the Ivy League as they topped the Crimson (2-11, 1-5 Ivy) 15-8.

It was green and white versus black and orange vying to secure second place in the Ivies. A total of 28 goals ignited a game of back-and-forth lead changes. Dartmouth was ahead with eight and a half minutes to play, but Princeton managed to net three goals before time expired to win 15-13 and secure second seed in the Ivy tournament.

Yesterday in College Park, Md., the Terps overtook the Big Green and never relinquished the lead. Courtney Bennett '13 had Dartmouth's first goal and captain Hana Bowers '13 followed up with a pair of goals to bring the Big Green's halftime total to three, while Maryland finished nine times in the first half to lead by six going into the break.

Along with a true team effort, two Dartmouth players in particular stuck out on the stats sheets. Goalie Kristen Giovanniello '14 recorded 10 saves and snuffed out additional offensive looks with interceptions out of her crease. Hana Bowers '13 once again netted multiple goals, scoring four in addition to securing five draw controls. Sarah Byrne '15 added a pair of goals, while Jaclyn Leto '16, Christine Lushefski '15 and Lindsey Allard '14 each tallied one to bring the total to nine.

Brown won the opening draw and took the first lead with a goal in the opening minute. Courtney Bennett '13 caused a turnover in the defensive end and started the transition up the field.

The game started off back and forth, with both teams alternating the first six goals in the opening 12 minutes of play. The Catamounts pulled ahead by two, but the Big Green was quick to answer back and net the score at 5-5 with 5:30 left in the half. Falling behind by two, Dartmouth once again responded with a pair of goals to end the first half tied at seven.

Calling Thursday afternoon's lacrosse matchup between the No. 12 Big Green women and in-state rival the University of New Hampshire a close game would be an understatement. Battling back and forth for 60 minutes of play, Dartmouth (2-0, 0-0 Ivy) clenched an 11-10 victory over the Wildcats (0-3, 0-0 America East) with two goals in the last five minutes of play. Co-captain Hana Bowers '13 tied the game at 10-10 and, with five seconds remaining, Jaclyn Leto '16 scored to clinch the victory and maintain the team's undefeated record.

Chris Hanson '13 was the sole victor of the day for the men, winning his match 3-1 against the Bantams' Juan Vargas. Head coach Hansi Wiens said that Hanson's change in technique after a grueling 8-11 first game helped Hanson, and that his ability to come back and win 11-5, 11-7 and 11-8 demonstrated that he is a "high-class athlete."

Even the best hockey teams can always use a solid last line of defense and the No. 12 Dartmouth men's hockey team is no exception, with two superb goalies on the roster this season who are dazzling fans with their saves. Cab Morris '14 and rookie Charles Grant '16 have turned away nearly 400 shots together this season, helping to propel the squad to an 8-5-2 (4-3-1 ECAC) record.

Dartmouth's varsity coaches have forged close ties with the Admissions Office as they seek out the best crop of talent to fill out their rosters while adhering to the Ivy League's academic standards. This relationship ensures that neither athletics nor admissions has to compromise its goals in the formation of a new Dartmouth class, including some athletes that will arrive this month for preseason.

The top 32 men in the nation competed in the Pool Division, and Dartmouth's Chris Hanson '13 and Nick Sisodia '12 earned spots in the top bracket. Hanson opened the tournament on Friday against Princeton University freshman Samuel Kang. Hanson and Kang battled for five games, but Kang eventually emerged victorious. Hanson snagged the opener, 11-9, fell, 5-11, in the second, edged out Kang, 13-11, in the third and succumbed, 11-6 and 11-4, in the last two games.

The Big Green women's squash team journeyed down to Cambridge, Mass. over the weekend to compete in the College Squash Association Tournament. Dartmouth earned the No. 8 ranking in the nation over the course of the season, placing Dartmouth in the A Division, a group of the top eight teams in the country that competes for the Howe Cup. Dartmouth lost matches to Harvard University, Stanford University and the University of Pennsylvania all by a score of 9-0 to earn eighth place in the tournament.

The top bracket was composed of five Ivy League teams Dartmouth, Princeton, Harvard University, Yale University and Cornell University. Trinity College, Franklin & Marshall College and University of Rochester rounded out the field. The Big Green entered the tournament seeded seventh and backed up its ranking, finishing seventh in the tournament.

The highlights from the men's matches against Yale came at the top of the board. At No. 1, Chris Hanson '13 topped junior Kenneth Chan in four games. Hanson soundly won the first, 11-4, but Chan equalized and took the second, 7-11. The two were neck and neck in the third until Hanson pulled away late to earn his second game, 12-10. The match was decided with an 11-8 Hanson victory in the fourth game.

A neck-and-neck battle of the freshmen was the highlight of the afternoon as the No. 8 Dartmouth women's squash team fell 5-4 to No. 7 Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. on Saturday. The Big Green men also fell to the Big Red, losing 8-1. The Big Green's Oona Morris '15 fought fellow freshman Rachel Au through five grueling games before triumphing 12-10 and 11-8 in the fourth and fifth games to take the match. With just one spot separating the schools in the national rankings, a close match was expected, and the teams delivered, with three of the nine contests going the maximum five games.
