Brown won the opening draw and took the first lead with a goal in the opening minute. Courtney Bennett '13 caused a turnover in the defensive end and started the transition up the field.

Midfielder Frances Bird '15 connected with attacker Liz Calby '14 to tie up the game 1-1. Nearly 10 minutes ran off the clock before Brown found the back of the net again to retake the lead.

Less than a minute later, Jaclyn Leto '16 fired in a shot to even up the tally. The Bears rallied back and scored twice before the half, one with only two seconds remaining, to go into the break with the Big Green trailing by two.

The Big Green came back out in the second half and took control of the first 10 minutes of play. Bird caused a turnover that led to a successful clear and Sarah Byrne '15 netted her first of two goals of the game.

Goalie Kristen Giovanniello '14 picked up a groundball and started the attack up the field. Lindsey Allard '14 found an open Bennett to tie the game.

The streak continued with Giovanniello scooping up a missed pass by Brown, followed by Hana Bowers '13 assisting Calby for her second goal, giving Dartmouth the lead for the first time all game with 20 minutes left in the second period.

This was another game of scoring runs, with Brown answering back with a three-goal streak in the next six minutes of play, taking the lead 7-5.

The runs kept coming as the Big Green bounced back to complete another three goal stint. This time Bowers netted two goals, the first off a pass from Leto, to even out the score at seven goals apiece with four minutes left to play.

Bowers' work was not over, as she caused a turnover behind the Big Green net that initiated the transition that led to the winning goal. Leto connected with Byrne in the midfield and as Byrne reached the eight-meter arc, she fired in a shot to the left side of the net to secure the win with 13 seconds remaining.

Giovanniello came up with a last second interception to extinguish Brown's final offensive chance. She had seven saves in the game.

The final exciting moments of the game delivered the win.

"The three captains rallied the whole team and the bench so that the force of the entire team was all in one direction together," Julia Szafman '13 said. "Then we all knew it was going to happen."

The team put weekly practice goals into action.

"We looked good on defense and sent quick slides which we were not doing against Vermont," Bennett said.

"The last play showed how potent our fast break attack can be. It was quick up the field one, two, three."

Defender Ellie Clayton '13 stressed the importance of the Big Green's mental game.

"It is really important for us off the draw to slow them down right away so we can get set in our positions before they settle," Clayton said. "Then we can attack them and not wait for them to come at us. It was really important in the last eight minutes to slow down the ball and pressure out."

The Big Green picked up 13 ground balls, caused nine turnovers, controlled seven draws and got off 16 shots in the game.

The team will have a week to prepare for another home Ivy League matchup against Cornell University next Saturday.

"We are utterly pleased to be 3-0 in such a strong conference where teams really come to play in every game," Bennett said.
