Sometimes you just don't know unless you've been there. The freshmen don't yet know how amazing and important Homecoming is to Dartmouth. But when you're running around the bonfire, adrenaline pumping, holding onto kids that you don't even know that well, you somehow realize that you're now connected in the spirit of Dartmouth -- you suddenly get it.

Sorority fall recruitment officially concluded Tuesday night with Bid Night, when sorority members welcomed their new pledge classes. The Class of 2007 showed a strong preference for national houses, with the three local houses garnering fewer pledges overall.

Dartmouth's much-touted wireless computer network lets student use their laptop computers all over campus -- in Novack Cafe and on the middle of the Green, as well as in the classroom. These capabilities permit students to use their laptops in class not just to take notes, but also to send e-mails and instant messages and browse the Internet.

The Women and Gender Studies department was born as Women Studies at Dartmouth in 1978, six years after the college went co-ed in 1972. The department has since expanded, incorporating "gender" into its name in 2000.

The Dartmouth College Bowl Team finished 14th out of 16th at the National College Bowl Championships held at Auburn University in Montgomery, Ala., over the weekend. Although the team's appearance at nationals was Dartmouth's first in 10 years, the team comprised of Ben Taylor '07, Tyson Kubota '07 and Matt Fujisawa '06 expressed disappointment with their performance.
