Twenty-one letter-winners will return on offense, including all but one of last season's starting offensive linemen. In 2005, Dartmouth experimented with four freshmen starters on the line and allowed a league-high 54 sacks as a result. However, the team can look forward to the return of two 300-pound sophomores who missed last season because of injury.

While the ribbon cutting for the fitness center will take place soon, the rest of the gym complex continues to be under construction and should be completed over the summer. Renovations already complete include a number of multi-purpose rooms that will house yoga, fencing and other activities and will be open for use this week.

The pair of losses left Dartmouth (12-13-4) with the program's first losing season since the 1985-86 campaign. While it was a disappointment, the team played the second most difficult schedule in the country this year, taking on several highly ranked non-conference opponents, lost four players to Olympic teams and three more to season ending injuries, including captain Tiffany Hagge '06.

The Big Green (12-11-4, 9-8-3 ECACHL) got off to an auspicious start, jumping on No. 8 Clarkson (21-11-1, 12-7 ECACHL) from the outset on Saturday, and cruising to a 6-2 victory. The squad couldn't carry the momentum from Potsdam to Canton, however, and Dartmouth fell 5-1 to No. 2 St. Lawrence (28-3-2, 16-2-2 ECACHL).

Dartmouth (9-10-4, 6-7-3 ECACHL) tied Quinnipiac (9-16-5, 3-12-3 ECACHL) 2-2 on Friday evening and lost 7-2 in a rout to Princeton (15-5-4, 11-3-2 ECACHL) on Saturday afternoon. Neither game featured particularly impressive play from the Big Green.

Dartmouth women's hockey struggled through a tough weekend, falling 1-0 to Yale on Friday and tying Brown 3-3 on Saturday. Friday's loss was particularly painful, snapping a 20-year winning streak against the Bulldogs. On Saturday, Dartmouth jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Brown before giving up three goals in the third, the equalizer coming with just 19.6 seconds left on the clock.

Many of Dartmouth's athletic programs are traditionally highly successful. Of the athletes in the Winter Olympics who hail from Ivy League institutions, half attended Dartmouth. Some of these athletes, especially those who participate in endurance sports like distance running or swimming, remove themselves from the boozy Hanover partying culture. They drop an aspect of their social lives in order to focus more completely on their athletic pursuits. While "going dry," as sports-related prohibitions are often referred to, might help people shave seconds off of their times, quitting drinking for a time is often met with disappointment from non-athlete friends.

In action for the first time since Jan. 11 because of first semester exams, Harvard (10-7-1, 7-3-2 ECACHL) struggled moving the puck from the outset of the game. The Crimson never came up with a solution for Dartmouth's heavy pressure defense.

Dartmouth's women's hockey team (8-8-2, 5-5-1 ECACHL) made the most of the trip up to Schenectady, N.Y. for two matches against Union College (3-16-1, 0-12-0 ECAC). The Big Green dominated both the Friday and Saturday games, keeping Union off the board in both games and netting a total of 13 goals. Dartmouth took Friday's game 4-0 before running away with Saturday's game 9-0.

In the past month alone, several organizations were found to be in violation of College policy by Safety and Security. The path from the initial violation to a social probation, however, is a complicated and individualized one. While it might seem as though hoping for clemency is little more than an exercise in futility, there are many instances of student organizations that are let off the hook in spite of several violations.

The Big Green struggled offensively in its last meeting with UNH. After Caroline Ethier '06 tied the game at 1-1 late in the first, Dartmouth could not manage another tally, and UNH steadily pulled away for a convincing 4-1 victory.

Against Cornell, Carli Clemis '09 got the start in goal over Kate Lane '06 and was carried to her first collegiate win by an impressive third period comeback, capped by captain Tiffany Hagge '06's fifth game-winning goal of the season.

The Dartmouth women's hockey team salvaged a split with Brown and Yale on the road this weekend, halting its losing streak at three. The power play continued to improve, and the offense yet again proved capable of creating numerous scoring opportunities. However, the goaltender position has turned into a question mark for the Big Green.

Dartmouth women's hockey endured a tough weekend, dropping home games to both St. Lawrence University and Clarkson University, 3-0 and 1-0 respectively. Dartmouth's failure to score over the weekend was quite a surprise coming from a unit that has been firing off shots on goal like they were going out of style.

The Dartmouth women's hockey team headed down to Chestnut Hill on Tuesday night for a midweek battle with number 10 ranked Boston College. With a 3-2 win, Dartmouth continued its rebound from a tough loss to Princeton on Friday and validated its own number 8 national ranking.
