Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity has been sentenced to three terms of College probation following investigations into hazing allegations filed against the fraternity in October, according to a hazing report published by the Office of Judicial Affairs on Wednesday. The probation, effective this winter, prohibits Alpha Phi Alpha from engaging in new member recruitment or education activities until next fall, according to the report.

Greek Letter Organizations and Societies is in the process of implementing a new national Greek honor society, Gamma Sigma Alpha, according to director Wes Schaub. Membership is limited to affiliated juniors and seniors with a minimum grade point average of 3.5.

The Big Green alpine team worked through thawing, soft snow and warm, wet skiing conditions on the slopes in Stowe, Vt. to reach an overall third-place finish at the Vermont Carnival this weekend. The carnival will continue with Nordic events on Feb. 1 and 2.

In Kosovo, a post-war country facing widespread poverty and a population reeling from 10 years of oppression, Minister of Health Ferid Agani has been at the forefront of instituting mental health reform. Agani spoke to Dartmouth undergraduates and graduate students about the circumstances of the Kosovar people, his efforts to create a mental health care system and the obstacles he has faced in a Monday afternoon lecture in the Haldeman Center.

The speeches were part of a larger rally that also featured Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., and democratic New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch. All speakers stressed the need for New Hampshire residents to vote on Tuesday. With many polls indicating that the race is close, New Hampshire's four electoral votes could make the difference in the election.

Coming off of second place finishes at its past three competitions, the Dartmouth equestrian team is preparing for back-to-back competitions this weekend despite practice setbacks due to the stormy weather caused by Hurricane Sandy. On Saturday, the team will compete at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H., before heading to Boxford, Mass., for a competition at Endicott College on Sunday.

"Nothing daunted me," Kurtz said. "It was difficult because there was resistance, but it was inevitable that we were going to have teams here. Dartmouth had admitted women and had committed to treating women the same as they treated men. It's just that it took a while to work our way through various attitudes."

On the field, the trio has led by example. Green is second on the team with 24 tackles and had a key fumble recovery in the Big Green's season opener against Butler University. Since he is the youngest captain, Green said he feels a responsibility to connect with his underclassman teammates, especially since the team is currently going through a "youth movement" with many young players.

The new LED lighting system, installed by Anita Jorgensen Lighting Design, is intended to better display the murals, according to art history professor Mary Coffey. The system of even, diffused lighting will become the model for how fresco murals are to be lit in the future, she said.

In 1972, then-College President John Kemeny established Dartmouth's Native American studies program, the only one of its kind in the Ivy League. This year, the department, which currently has nine faculty members and offers over 25 classes, will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a Native American Studies Symposium on Friday.

"There certainly is a certain element of size and speed at that level that doesn't compare to the Ivy League, but the reason it was so disappointing is because I actually thought I could have played at that level if given the chance," Schwieger said. "I'm not saying I would have been some star running back, but I think I could have contributed on special teams."
