More than three years after releasing his last album "Version" (2007) to critical acclaim, English DJ and music producer Mark Ronson has returned on the scene with a new moniker Mark Ronson & The Business Intl. and a new album "Record Collection." The album, released stateside on Sept. 28, displays his love of collaboration with other artists, as well as his affinity for songs that have both a modern feel while drawing strongly on musical conventions from the past.

Over the weekend, West showed up to perform twice on "Saturday Night Live" a somewhat surprising guest appearance given the "SNL"-bashing lyrics in his new single "Power," the first single off of the rapper's upcoming album. In "Power," West says after the second chorus: "F-ck SNL' and the whole cast/Tell 'em Yeezy said they can kiss my whole ass/More specifically, they can kiss my asshole./I'm an asshole? You n-ggas got jokes."

An attempted rape in Huntsville, Ala. at the end of July led to a local news report that blew up YouTube. Kelly Dodson was allegedly attacked by an intruder in the middle of the night, but it was her brother, Antoine Dodson that took center stage in the following weeks as he explosively reacted to the events while the news cameras rolled. His emotional and comical reaction which some have even dubbed a caricature attracted millions of views on YouTube. The Brooklyn-based Gregory Brothers, best known as the geniuses behind the popular meme "Auto-Tune the News," used the news clips to compose another Auto-tuned masterpiece. Their song has more than 20 million views, and is even at the top of the iTunes R&B chart. There are now several covers of the hit, and because Dodson receives half of the profits from the song, he has told several news outlets that he earned enough money to move his family out of the projects. I hope he can still contribute to catchy songs like this one in his future, from much safer digs.

When I found out that Los Angeles-based comedienne GloZell Green was interested in speaking to The D, I was excited because there was so much about her I was dying to know. I immediately contacted the YouTube star, who has gained a fan base for her videos that poke fun at popular songs. In her "translation" (as Green calls it) of Rihanna's "Rude Boy," for example, GloZell remarks, "Rihanna went from being the easy, breezy, beautiful Cover Girl to the Ooh, cover it up' girl!" GloZell sounded exactly the same over the phone as she does online; she was everything I imagined she would be and more. Below are some highlights from the interview.

A collaboration by students and professors from DDTE, the theater department, the computer science department and the digital arts minor program, "Viscera" took around a year to put together, according to the program notes. Theater professors Ford Evans and Peter Hackett conceived and directed the piece, while computer science professor Lorie Loeb directed the animation and theater professor Dan Kotlowitz served as the lighting and video designer. At the opening of the performance, the stage was set with a see-through screen showing images of the Dartmouth Green throughout the year. The scenery soon transitioned into bombings, while the dancers stood behind the screen, dressed in white clothing and paint.

Following in the footsteps of such YouTube-stars-turned-celebrities as Justin Bieber, Los Angeles-based comedian GloZell Green has risen to fame with her critical and hilarious "translations" of popular songs. Although she doesn't bash the songs entirely, GloZell highlights the ambiguous lyrics that most people overlook with a comedic reading of the song, complete with her own enlightening side comments. To Ke$ha's lyric, "Pedicure on our toes, toes," GloZell responds, "Where else is a pedicure supposed to go? On your face?" Along with "TiK ToK," GloZell has also posted "translations" of "Blah Blah Blah," Rihanna's "Rude Boy" and Young Money's "BedRock." On top of her song commentaries, GloZell has a blog and posts videos that discuss everything from her hair treatments to Bop It to push-up bras. GloZell may not have helped with my studies, but she definitely made me laugh and encouraged me to take a new look at the lyrics of many Top 40 songs.

Ke$ha's debut album "Animal," released on Jan. 5, should probably add the word "House" to the end of its title. The perpetually drunk singer's debut album often depicts the lifestyle and activities that take place in many Greek houses across the Dartmouth campus (although admittedly in a slightly trashier way).

The exhibit will remain on display for the remainder of the term, though some items were available only for the opening, according to AREA co-director Travis Weyneth '10. The show serves as a way to display artwork directly from Greek houses on campus including pong tables, paddles and photographs of murals while exploring the relationship between the otherwise separate domains of the basement and the art gallery, according to Weyneth and co-directors Stephanie Trejo '10 and Elizabeth Klinger '10.
