While visiting the College as a Montgomery Fellow, Richard Schechner is currently teaching a class in the drama department titled, "Performances of Great Magnitude." The class discusses such epic theatrical events as the Olympics, ancient town rituals, and other similar events that cannot take place in a traditional theater space.

So Dartmouth's administrators probably think they're creating the next generation of intellectual leaders. While that may be right, they are also creating the next generation of candidates for lipo suction and quadruple bypass surgery. Now I realize that we are located in the middle of nowhere, but you'd think that perhaps a college as wealthy as ours would be able to import some sort of food that isn't fried or dripping in grease from civilization. But perhaps they are all just a little too busy trying to end the Greek system. Hmm...does anyone else think that their priorities are a little off balance?

I must admit, I first agreed to write this column with a very specific motive in mind. Finally, I had found a forum to complain about the serious lack of air conditioning here at Dear Old Dartmouth. Thankfully, however, I changed my mind. Perhaps the decrease in temperature over the past two days has loosened me up, but I suddenly realized, who needs to hear yet another whiny complaint from a pampered Dartmouth undergrad? Not me.

Construction on the Gold Coast residence hall cluster is currently underway in "probably the most ambitious project" the Office of Residential Life has undertaken in one summer, Director of Residential Operations Woody Eckels said.

Last summer, I had a Dartmouth Partners in Community Service (DPICS) Internship in Boston. My internship gave me first-hand knowledge and unfiltered exposure to the lives of some of Boston's poorest and most destitute citizens. A year has gone by since my internship, and I am still trying to reconcile the utopian world of plenty I encounter at Dartmouth with the world of poverty and need existing in so many other places.

In the well-known cartoon, "The Family Circus," when the children are asked who is to blame for mishaps, they immediately point to "Not Me," an invisible creature who is responsible for every mess, every broken window, and every stray roller skate. In the decision of who should re-build Serbia, both Europe and U.S. seem to be pointing a finger towards the "Not Me."

After having actively responded to the Social and Residential Life Initiative during the Winter and Spring terms, the Coed Fraternity Sorority Council sees unifying the campus and bringing Greek and non-Greek students together as its main goal for the Summer term, newly-elected CFSC Summer President Jojo Adofo-Mensah '01 said yesterday.

College buildings temporarily lost electricity yesterday after a power fuse at the Dartmouth steam power plant failed at 2:30 in the morning, cutting off many electrical, hot water and BlitzMail functions on the campus.
