Visiting Film Professor Bill Phillips's script for a takeover of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center lies on the desk of an executive at NBC. Phillips said that if NBC brings back their Monday Night Movie, the film will probably be produced.

The men's soccer team shutout the University of Vermont 3-0 in a border-state rivalry yesterday at Chase Field. The win should help the Big Green in the New England rankings as they entered the contest as the sixth-ranked team while Vermont brought the No. 4 ranking to Hanover. The win raised Dartmouth's record in the rivalry to 12-9 in the 21-game history of the series.

I have to admit, my first reaction to the 'cable memo' that we all found upon moving in was one of excitement. Visions of Sportscenter danced through my head as I read the news. And why not? This school has a wide array of information that as students we all have ready access to. We have the internet at the touch of a finger, and we can get "All the news that's fit to print" delivered right to our doorstep. Amazingly all these resources are available to us here in the wilds of New Hampshire. Despite this, our access to television, probably the most widespread and powerful medium of our day, is limited at best. This is somewhat ironic for one of the top colleges in the country.

Almost 300 first-year students gathered on the Green last Saturday to participate in 'ShmenCORPS, a day of service for the Upper Valley community. Modeled on last spring's overwhelmingly successful DarCORPS, Saturday's event was created, organized, and carried out by a team of College students, with support from the Tucker Foundation.

The women's field hockey team has a knack for winning in the early part of the season, but you have to stick around if you want to see the victory. The Big Green won their second overtime game of the year Sunday afternoon by defeating Penn, 4-3, in Philadelphia. The win raised the squad's record to a perfect 3-0 as they head into this Saturday's showdown against NCAA runner-up Princeton.

Upper Valley soccer fans who watched the Dartmouth women's soccer team beat up on Brown two Saturdays ago probably came away from the game thinking that it would be a pretty good year for the Big Green. After all, the team did shut out Brown in a convincing 4-0 win, and Brown, no slouch, does have a program that boasts an Ivy League record 12 championships.

Dartmouth's campus seems to constantly experience animosity between the administration and the students. More than a little of that problem arises from the absolute failure of the school to understand the students. And this is nowhere more evident than in the areas of safety and security and the college's alcohol policy.

First of all, I would like to extend my congratulations to each member of the Class of 2001 for his or her acceptance to Dartmouth. You have arrived at a great institution, and as long as you wisely manage your life here, countless opportunities will be thrown at you upon your graduation.
