It isn’t obvious what most of the menu items actually are, and it doesn’t help that you keep hearing everyone in front of you order mysterious items named after Marvel characters and singers. But don’t worry – I’m here to help you decode the secret Hop options so you can up your order-customization game. Life with DDS can get dull, but the Hop offers many options to mix it up.
It’s week seven. It seems like only yesterday you were arriving back on campus for the winter and bracing yourself for the long, cold term to come, but now finals are fast approaching, and you’re feeling completely unprepared. This is crunch time. This is FoCo to-go time.
You would think that in honor of Valentine’s Day I would conjure up some decadent, chocolate-covered dessert. But let’s be honest, we all know there will be plenty of that this weekend. Instead, I offer an alternative treat that you can share with your “honey” in honor of Cupid and all his fine work. This week I pay tribute to my favorite cereal – Honey Bunches of Oats – with a unique blend of FoCo’s granola, chocolate chip cookies, Nutella, soft serve and of course, honey.
I’m a reality cooking show junkie. Over winterim, you definitely would have found me lying on the couch watching Food Network. Throughout the years, the network has degenerated into a slew of cooking competitions, featuring shows like “Iron Chef,” “Chopped,” “The Next Food Network Star” and “Cupcake Wars.” But I’m not complaining – there’s something about the heat of the competition, the delicious-looking food and the fact that there’s no pressure to actually learn how to cook anything that just keeps me coming back for more.
I love pies – apple, cherry, berry, rhubarb, you name it. If it’s a pie, I will eat it! Naturally, when I noticed that FoCo was blessing us with a plethora of pies, I had to take advantage of its offerings. But sometimes a good ol’ piece of pie, as tasty and traditional as it is, just doesn’t do the trick. Maybe a little ice cream or some whipped cream could make the pie jump off the plate. I got pretty creative with my piece of blueberry pie this week, as inspired by a conversation I had with friends. Over dinner one night, a couple of guys started mispronouncing the word blueberry. Clearly my friends are an easy crowd — I chimed in with “Bloohburree” and got several laughs. As soon as I said it, I knew what I was going to try to make – an inside-out interpretation of the classic pie and ice cream combo.
The other day at KAF, I ordered my usual caffeine fix: a small dark roast.
I was in FoCo for lunch the other day and noticed that the bakery was offering lemon cake, one of my all-time favorite desserts. I have a policy where I try not to eat FoCo desserts during lunch (soft-serve being the one exception), so I made a mental note to try the cake at dinner that night. For some reason, I didn’t end up eating dessert after dinner, let alone check the bakery for my lemon cake! I thought I had missed the one chance I had. But the next night, I saw lemon bars in the desserts section and it dawned on me — I can make my own lemon cake! Or at least try to…
Something has definitely changed about the FoCo cookies this term – they are significantly less gooey. But don’t fret! There are still plenty of ways to transform the firmer cookies into a delicious treat, and this ice cream sandwich is just the way to prove it.

Breaking their fast with dates and cold water, Muslim students and community members gathered to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan Tuesday night. The annual Ramadan dinner was hosted by campus Muslim student association Al-Nur, and offered a time to reflect on the holiday’s traditions over a catered dinner in Collis Commonground.
I have bemoaned the lack of a tapas restaurant since I arrived in Hanover last year. Introduced in Spain over 200 years ago to increase bars’ alcohol sales, the small appetizers have recently gained stateside popularity. Candela Tapas Lounge, which opened on June 11, is a welcome addition to the Hanover restaurant scene and offers a stylish change in a town characterized by limited dining options.
Following in the footsteps of Collis Café, Novack Café recently switched its coffee selection from Green Mountain coffeetoPierce Brothers coffee. With the transition, Novack also began serving espressos and iced cappuccinos.
Wednesdays are the best days. Not because it means the academic week is halfway done, or because it offers me a somewhat legitimized excuse to go out and party my little heart out.
