Despite playing under welcome blue skies and sunshine, the Dartmouth's men and women's rugby teams suffered disappointing results over the weekend. The men's team hosted its last College Premier Division game of the season and lost, 31-15, to Kutztown University, while the women's team succumbed to Stanford University, 40-15, and the University of Northern Iowa, 31-22, in Buffalo, N.Y., at the Division I National Tournament.

While the Dartmouth men's and women's crew teams faced fierce conditions at Cornell University and at home this weekend, only the lightweight men's crew team was able to snag a victory over the Big Red, winning by a margin of six seconds. The women's team lost to Cornell and the heavyweights competed against the University of Wisconsin and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at home.

Dartmouth and Brown seemed matched in skill for over three quarters, with each team pulling ahead by one only to see the other team take the lead. Brown (6-8, 2-4 Ivy) eventually pulled ahead by two goals with 8.5 minutes left to play in the game, but Dartmouth (5-9, 1-5 Ivy) managed to equalize before the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Brown scored first in the sudden death overtime period to win.

The Dartmouth men's and women's track and field teams performed well at both the 117th Penn Relays and UMass Invitational this past weekend, the last meets in which the teams will participate before the Ivy Heptagonals at Yale University on Saturday and Sunday. Both teams had many strong individual performances and the women's distance medley team bested an eight-year-old school record.

Four games behind the top team in the Ivy League North Division and with four games to play, the Dartmouth softball team competed in a pair of doubleheaders this weekend against division-leading Harvard University with the title on the line.

Two weeks ago, after a demoralizing four-game sweep at Yale University, the Dartmouth baseball team stood at just 6-6 in the Ivy League. With its hopes of a third consecutive Ivy League championship hanging by a thread, the Big Green managed just three runs in the four games and trailed the Bulldogs by two games in the Rolfe Division standings.

Despite last weekend's offensive letdown against Yale University, the Big Green came out with a balanced attack to score in bursts against Brown. The wins put Dartmouth in second place in the Red Rolfe Division and a game behind Yale University in the rankings, but the Big Green hopes to reverse this setup as it plays two more games against Brown on Monday.

The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team soundly defeated Princeton University on Saturday afternoon, 15-10, providing an energetic performance that corresponded with the team's annual alumnae weekend. After a disappointing loss against the University of Pennsylvania last weekend, the Big Green (9-3, 5-1 Ivy) now has an opportunity to share the League title with the University of Pennsylvania if it triumphs against Harvard University on Friday.

The Dartmouth men and women's golf teams competed in the Ivy League Championships this past weekend at Galloway National Golf Course and Atlantic City Country Club, respectively, with the men's team finishing in fourth place and the women's team finishing last out of seven. Peter Williamson '12 finished first overall individually with a combined total score of 223 strokes. Yale University won both the men's and women's tournaments.

Laurel Richie '81 was appointed president of the Women's National Basketball Association on April 21 by National Basketball Association Commissioner David Stern, according to a WNBA press release. Richie will assume her new position on May 16 as the WNBA heads into its 15th season this summer. She will oversee the day-to-day operations of the league under NBA Chief Operating Officer Adam Silver. Before her appointment, Richie who majored in policy studies while at Dartmouth served as senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Girl Scouts of America, where she managed branding, communication and publishing for the national organization. Richie's former work experience also includes time at advertising companies Leo Burnett Worldwide and Ogilvy and Mather, where she worked with brands like American Express, Pepperidge Farm and Huggies. Richie recently received the YMCA Black Achiever's Award and was named one of the 25 Influential Black Women in Business by The Network Journal. Richie's experience in marketing and advertising will serve her well as she tries to continue the development of the WNBA brand on the national stage, according to the press release.

Dartmouth (14-8, 6-1 Ivy) got off to a shaky start in the match, with Molly Scott '11 and Christina Danosi '13 losing 8-2 in first doubles and Ryan Reichel '11 and co-captain Georgiana Smyser '11 falling 8-5 in second doubles. Despite the 8-5 third-doubles victory by Jeri Reichel '13 and Melissa Matsuoka '14, the Big Green lost the doubles point to Harvard (9-9, 4-3 Ivy).

The Dartmouth men's track and field team dominated the University of Vermont and Middlebury College at home on Sunday. Finishing in first with 105 points, the Big Green men were victorious in 14 of the 19 events. The Catamounts trailed in second with 46 points, while the Panthers finished in third place with only 40 points. Connor Reilly '13 won both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, earning a personal best in the 200-meter. David Irving '11 topped his opponents in the weight throw, discus and shot put. On the women's side, Dartmouth led the field, also beating Vermont and Middlebury. Alexi Pappas '12 set a school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase while Christina Alexander '11 dominated the throwing events, winning the shot put, hammer throw and discus.

Under the guise of celebrating a friend's birthday, I made the trip to Boston on Saturday night for the second game of the Bruins-Canadiens playoff series. While the home team flopped, putting them down 0-2 in the Eastern conference quarterfinals, the experience was still essentially a gift to everyone involved Happy 21st, Alex!
