The Dartmouth men's track and field team dominated the University of Vermont and Middlebury College at home on Sunday. Finishing in first with 105 points, the Big Green men were victorious in 14 of the 19 events. The Catamounts trailed in second with 46 points, while the Panthers finished in third place with only 40 points. Connor Reilly '13 won both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, earning a personal best in the 200-meter. David Irving '11 topped his opponents in the weight throw, discus and shot put. On the women's side, Dartmouth led the field, also beating Vermont and Middlebury. Alexi Pappas '12 set a school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase while Christina Alexander '11 dominated the throwing events, winning the shot put, hammer throw and discus.
Several members of the University of San Diego basketball program were indicted for involvement in a point-shaving and marijuana-distributing scandal. Former USD guard Brandon Johnson, who leads the Toreros in career scoring and assists, was arrested last weekend because he "attempted to influence and influenced the outcome of a USD basketball game for a monetary bribe," according to a university press release. Johnson played for USD from 2005 to 2010. Brandon Dowdy, a USD player from 2006 to 2007, and Thaddeus Brown, who served as an assistant coach from 2006 to 2007, were also charged for attempting to fix a University of California at Riverside game this season. Johnson, Dowdy and Brown were just three of 10 people indicted for involvement in the bribery ring.
After falsely accusing three Duke University lacrosse players of rape in 2006, Crystal Mangum allegedly stabbed her boyfriend, Reginald Dye, and may face murder charges, The Herald Sun of Durham, N.C., reported. Dye died on Wednesday from injuries due to the stab wounds, which Mangum inflicted in his torso using a kitchen knife, police said in an interview with The Herald Sun. In February 2010, Mangum was charged with arson, attempted murder and child abuse after she set her then-boyfriend's clothes on fire in front of her three children. Mangum served 88 days in jail after she was found guilty of child abuse, injury to personal property and resisting a public officer in December.
