Molly Khalil '12 said the Big Green played poorly in the first game and called the matchup "brutal."

"We came into the first game expecting to win and got rolled over," she said.

Brown built its lead throughout the game, scoring two runs in the first inning, five in the third and six in the seventh.

"We had one horrible inning, which set the tone for the rest of the game," Audrey Kolodziej '11 said.

Dartmouth struggled on offense all game, managing just four hits one each by Khalil, Kat Hicks '12, Hillary Barker '12 and Noelle Ramirez '13. Brown senior pitcher Kristie Chin went six innings and recorded three strikeouts.

Gray '13 said that although Chin also threw for Brown last year, "and threw the exact same way," the Big Green had trouble with her pitches.

Despite its difficulties, Dartmouth entered the second game with renewed attitude and jumped out to an early lead.

Meghan Everett '12 started the game with a double and then scored off of another double by Ramirez, who scored on a ground out by Khalil.

"[Ramirez] is a great person to bat after because she's on base a lot," Khalil said.

Ramirez finished two-for-two at the plate, scoring three runs and one RBI on Sunday.

After Brown junior Kat Strobel hit a home run to centerfield, another homerun allowed the Bears to take the lead in the fifth.

In the game-changing seventh inning, Kolodziej hit a single to left field. Ramirez followed with a walk, before Khalil knocked in three runs with a long-shot home run to win the game. The blast marked Khalil's fifth homer of the season.

Gray said the seventh inning was a tense time in the game, as Brown and Dartmouth were both playing for the win.

"I was pitching with one out, two on base, and I knew this would be the last inning," she said. "Whoever scored, won."

Gray finished with six strikeouts and three earned runs in the second game.

"Evan really commanded the batters, they just couldn't figure her out," Khalil said.

Kolodziej said the second game was more of "a matter of pride," as the Big Green attempted to come back from the previous defeat.

"We wanted to show our character by coming back from a pretty significant loss," she said.

Khalil said the Big Green kept the Bears contained for the majority of the second game.

"We did a good job of not letting the good players beat us," she said. "[Brown sophomore] Stephanie Thompson has an amazing batting average, and we held her close today."

The players said the real triumph was that the team managed to stage a comeback victory, made possible by a quick attempt at regrouping at the beginning of the game.

"At the end of the first, we came in a huddle and regrouped," Kolodziej said. The Big Green softball team faces Brown again on Monday in another doubleheader, and anticipates adding two wins to its record.

"We're definitely leaving behind our first game" Kolodziej said.
