Hello readers. My name is Mike. I am a senior, and compared to all of the spectacular specimens at this school, I'd say I'm a pretty average guy. I have one of the most average names of all time (fourth-most popular in U.S. history to be precise), I have a pretty average GPA, I can never think of interesting facts about myself for icebreaker circles and on a good day, my athletic coordination could be described as somewhere between oafish and grunt-like.

For many recruits, official visits are the best chance they have to learn about a school and how they will fit into the environment as both a student and an athlete. More than a normal college visit, an official visit, also known as a recruiting trip, offers the prospective student-athlete a chance to meet other students and recruits and experience all a school has to offer, from residence halls to dining facilities to the social life.

Vince Marriott: As a Philadelphia native, I always keep a particularly close eye on the sporting scene in the City of Brotherly Love. Recently, I have been astounded at how well the Phillies have been playing, pulling themselves up from near oblivion to become legitimate contenders for the National League wildcard berth. Even though they recently dropped three of four games to the historically bad Houston Astros and have traded or given away many of their most important players from the 2008 World Series run, I think that these guys are for real, but it may be too little, too late. Their series against the Atlanta Braves this weekend will do a great deal to determine the result of this race, and I won't be missing the first game on Friday night. (Friday, 7:05 p.m., MLBTV)

Dartmouth football made its glorious return to the gridiron on Saturday with a dominating 35-7 win over Butler University. Quite literally from the opening kickoff, the Big Green ran away with the game. The offense was clicking and the defense was adhering strictly to the philosophy of "bend, don't break."

In August, the central question for Dartmouth was whether the team could replace 18 graduated starters, including the College's all-time leading rusher and third most prolific passer. 184 passing yards from transfer quarterback Alex Park '14, a career-high 170 rushing yards from Dominick Pierre '14 and a stifling defense provided a good first answer on Saturday night.

Vince Marriott: Despite the start of the NFL season, college football has been great so far. Not only have there been several excellent upsets (hi, Arkansas), but several powerhouse teams have emerged as men among boys. While No. 20 Notre Dame and No. 10 Michigan State have yet to emerge as national title contenders, the historical significance of their matchup at 8 p.m. on Saturday is substantial. Both teams have long track records of strong performances at a national level, and the prime-time time slot makes it a watchable game for the average college student. This is one matchup you don't want to miss, as it provides both teams the chance to send a message. (Saturday, 8 p.m., ABC)
